even though Scotland is part of the UK, i think it should be an answer or a bonus answer since Scotland is a country

Whatever it's called, Scotland has no better claim at being an answer than South Dakota do. They are both constituent part of a union, neither is indepedent.

I wouldn't say Scotland is on a par with South Dakota as before 1707 it was a country, whereas South Dakota has never been a country (even if you were to count the Native American Dakota tribe as a nation, it was not in the same place as Dakota is now). However, there is no basis for including Scotland as a country today.

If Scotland is a country, so is Bavaria, Prussia, Flanders, or Wallonia, as they were nations around the same time. In fact, Prussia was a nation even longer than Scotland.

I like the game. The discussion is weird, since there's a clear definition of country here at sporcle: UN members, Taiwan and Kosovo.

Raise your hand if you started typing "Sahara", only to slap yourself on the face.

I would randomize the answers, instead of alphabetical. Oh and my "slap moment" was missing Saudi Arabia...

I checked to see if Scandinavia or Scotland would be bonus answers, but oh well. Anyway, Sporcle has trained me well. Got them all - last one to come to mind was Sri Lanka.

Judging by the comments thus far, mostly everybody got all of them except for one easy one, so it's time for me slap myself in the forehead also. I missed South Africa.

I clearly need not to be taking this quiz at 3 in the morning. Not only could I not get more than 11 countries, I missed Spain--where I'm going to be living for 6 months in exactly a month from today. ¬_¬
