| If you're putting no end date on UK occupation (1878- ) because of the Sovereign Base Areas at Episkopi and Akotiri, then I wonder if Turkey would also count for her occupation in 1974-75 (or 1974 to 1983, when the current Turkish Republic of North Cyprus was proclaimed). Or was that too transient? You could finesse the question, perhaps, by accepting "Turkey" for Ottoman Empire and then letting "Turkey" filling two blanks: 1571-1878 and 1974-1975/1983. But some of my premises may well be mistaken Since I'm thinking objectively here, not trying to take a position on how independent or sovereign the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus may be, it might make sense (in the same way that Sporcle treats Taiwan as independent regardless of the Chinese or U.N. position) to add 1975- or 1983- for "North Cyprus" or "Turkish Republic of North Cyprus". Thirty-six (or 28) years is a long time to be fleeting, temporary or transient. |
