First, can you cite a source for this?
Second, could you change the font color from white to something darker? Or change the background color. Right now, it hurts the eyes.

@LTH: OK, I changed the background colors. As it says in the note, my source was looking at a map of the Japanese empire and comparing it to a modern day map. I put the map I used as the source, i hope this helps.

The USA should probably be an actual answer. The Japanese occupied parts of the Aleutian Islands for over a year, as well as the Marianas. I can see not thinking that the Marianas are really part of the US, but Alaska is.

Maybe India, at least as a bonus? The Japanese were halted by British and Indian forces at Imphal and Kohima, just inside modern-day India, after a siege, so could be said to have occupied a tiny part of the country.
