Note this only covers seasons from 1970 onwards. Note in response to the comment about Cliff Lee's 09 season, I added 9 bonuses for all (4 more) wins over 27% of team wins and 55% of saves (5 more)

I really like the quiz, there's a number of typos to be fixed -- I spotted the 72 Whuite Sox, the '93 Marlins closer's first name, and the '91 Angels closer's first name.

The '05 Twins went 83-79... it says they won 71 games?

Thanks for these notes, not sure how I screwed up a couple of them, but I have the approrpriate changes to fix those items that were wrong (I don't think there are any others) it has resulted in Lincecum and Nathan both getting dropped from the list, it added another reliever that should have been there anyway actually. I fixed the typos too.

1968: Denny McClain's 31 wins was 30.1% of the Tigers' 103 victories.

mjs - Note I limited this to 1970 and later, so McClain is out of the picture. The fact is that before the 70's, and even in the early 70's as is evidenced by the heavy dose of starters from the early 70's covered here, rotations were smaller (usually 4 starters per team), and guys started and won a higher percentage of their teams games. If I went throughout the entirety of baseball history, all the pitchers would have been from the turn of the century, and that didn't seem as relevent or interesting to me.

Nice quiz. for the most part it was "Name a great pitcher who was stuck on crappy teams most of his career". I was surprised blyleven didn't make the list. Had forgotten the 2004 diamondbacks were that bad, just three years after winning the World Series and two years after winning 98 games.

@cocky, I guess it's because Blyleven wasn't a great pitcher. Funny fact, the top guy was the #2 pitcher on the team with the 7th guy, 2 years earlier. And 5th from the bottom was the #2 guy on McLain's (not McClain, btw) team 3 years earlier.

Cocky - Thanks! You are largely right. I was inspired to generate this list when I heard a baseball commentator mention the '72 pitcher season and how large a portion of the teams wins that pitcher was credited with. As an aside, 3 of these teams did make the post season, only one of them made (and for that matter won) the Series - my childhood favorites - the '74 A's.

Carlton's 1972 season has always impressed me. In 1973, Wilbur Wood also lost 20 games, or 26% of the team's total. He was the AL's last 20/20 man. Can you guess the last to do that in the NL? (Hint....he is on this list).

Great quiz, though wins and saves are pretty useless stats to measure pitcher performance.

Cliff Lee's 2008 season should be on here. He won 22 games of the Indians 81 victories which amounts to 27.1%. Also what's the cut off because I'm almost certain that Chesbro's 41 win season was a super high percentage.

Oto - Lee's season falls just outside the top 25, you'll note all the seasons listed are higher than Lee. The cutoff is called out in the title - 1970 onward.

In light of Otos comment, I decided to add bonuses for anyone with >27% of teams wins or over 55% of victories saved. here are years and teams for those bonuses: Wins - '08 Cleveland, '96 Toronto, '73 Detroit, '73 Milwaukee; Saves - '91 St. Louis, '90 Cleveland, '07 ChiSox, '97 Cincinnati, '04 Texas.

If he keeps winning while the Mets lose, might have to add RA Dickey to this list.
