Need to accept old spellings of the Indian cities (i.e. Bombay, etc.)

I am always mixed on whether to accept old names. WHere does one draw the line. Is Byzantium acceptable for Istanbul? The city has its present name and that's what it should be called by...just my opinion.

We accept anglicised names for European cities like Rome, Cologne, etc. Why stop accepting anglicised names for other cities? Especially for cities that changed official names fairly recently.

@gummi: Because many schools in many countries worldwide still teach that it is called that.

Many people in India, and in Bombay itself call it by its former name. The new names haven't been around for long, and take some getting used to. Many people refer to the cities as Bombay, Madras, Calcutta, Baroda, Trivandrum etc. You need to accept those. Also, Bombay is far bigger than Delhi.
