Quick on the mark, good stuff. You should maybe change Downing from a defender to a midfielder.

Now that Kenny Dalglish has been sacked, Downing can claim his first assist of the season!

Alternative 23- Carson, Jack Buckland, David Stockdale, Walker, Ferdinand, Jagielka, Richards, Smalling, Warnock, Gibbs, Henderson, Carrick, Beckham, Joe Cole, Barton, Adam Johnson, Scott Sinclair, Lennon, Agbonlahor, Zamora, Crouch, Sturridge, Holt. Which of that lot would you have instead?

Well I'm Irish but going on Premier League form this season Holt should have been picked over Carroll. Scott Sinclair would have been an interesting choice too. He was excellent for Swansea this season.

With Lampard out and Henderson in, this might be the 1st quiz to be outdated before getting published.

Lampard should be a bonus along with Gareth Barry. BTW this has to be the weakest England squad I've ever seen for a major tournament, but nevertheless I am going to be supporting them all the way, hopefully to the winning celebrations.

Henderson is a replacement, like England would pick a player of his complete lack of ability for the first team!

GK.Hart, RB.Jones, CB.Cahill, CB.Terry, LB.Cole, CM.Gerrard, CM.Parker, RM.Walcott, AM.Oxlade-Chamberlain, LM.Young, ST.Carroll/Rooney (when back from suspension.)......I very much doubt that will be the team Roy picks for the match against France, but imo, it's the best we've got (Which isn't saying much)

@Larryholmes Baines over Cole any day.

@Mirrorboy- I like Baines as a player, he's solid, steady and reliable but I've always thought he may be a touch suspect defensively against the top teams. On the other hand, on his day, Cashley is probably the best defensive left back in the world, just look at his performances in the semi-finals and the final of the champions league. He also frequently marks Ronaldo out of the game when ever he plays against him. With all that said, I do think Baines carries more of an attacking threat than Cole does. Baines's final ball is consistently good, where as Cole's is consistently terrible.

As an American Soccer fan, who looks up to the English team (like most Americans soccer fans), I seriously believe we could could beat this team. Really.

It's always been interesting to me that the English squad must be made up solely of EPL (or, in the case of Butland, Championship) players. I get that the English pride their league on being the best in the world, and that it makes scouting for the MNT that much easier. But still, could you imagine if the USMNT was made up only of players in the MLS? Ouch...

It doesn't have to be made up of only players in the EPL, there are just very few english players outside of the EPL. Also, Green is still technically Championship too as the 2012/13 season hasn't yet started. The only player playing outside of England I think should have been picked is Scott Carson but that is only as 3rd choice.

@Mirrorboy Baines is amazing. I might be biased as an Everton fan, but he should definitely get a chance to start he's a great footballer (also a bit handsome).

happ hazard- yes, credit to you for not allowing player's nationalities to effect your judgement of him. However, the fact that Delap is Irish would scupper any hopes of him linking up with the England squad

@BiloxiSean, yeah we could! We played Brazil really nicely in the last friendly despite the 4-1 scoreline (3 very near goals, but Brazil hit the post once too).

BREAKING NEWS: Gary Cahill is out with a fractured jaw. Someone is going to have fun keeping this quiz up-to-date with all of these injuries! Liverpool's Martin Kelly may take Cahill's place.

And I thought our 2002 squad was bad, with such skilled individuals as Danny Mills, Trevor Sinclair, Darius Vassell, Emile Heskey...

I am truly astonished at the fact that after all the contributions that Emile Heskey has made to England, that he was exempted from this very here sqaud. Glad to see the Everton representation in the back though.

That is such a poor squad. Won't get out of the group. Hodgson has a free pass for this tournament, but he will have to start a major rebuild afterwards. But with what, I do not know.
