Please remove proper nouns like Nate and Kate to bonuses.
Also, missing from the Merriam-Webster dictionary: bate, blate (Scottish, since you included haet which is also Scottish), bleat (down South), and quoit. I admit the last two have other ways of pronouncing them, but the dictionary lists them as rhyming with late.

@HovercraftEels: One alternative to sproutcm's suggestion would be to make the Scottish words bonuses and add a game note. You'd still have to add the others mind.

I always though 'fete' rhymed with 'get'. Is there another meaning I'm not aware of?

I have modified the quiz- Scottish words were added as bonuses, as well as "bleat" and "quoit", and the proper nouns are no longer bonuses. @rebelprince185- 'Fete' rhymes with 'late' in all of my sources.

Plait? Fete? I looked 'em up and was surprised to see they do have pronunciations that rhyme with late -- though I've never heard anyone in real life pronounce those words like that. And I even live "down south" -- where I have also never heard anyone pronouce bleat like "blate." Guess I'm unculcha'ed.

'Plait' should not be included, it rhymes with 'hat' not 'hate'. And properly, 'trait' is pronounced 'tray'. But a good quiz, as well.

@jwedmore: "Gyrate" has two syllables - How's that for a... twist?
@mivce: "Kuwait" also has two syllables. So oil's well that end's well.

The only way "fĂȘte" rhymes with "late" is if you don't use the cirumflex accent, which, in French, makes it rhyme with English "get." If you want to say "fete accompli" with an American accent, I guess you might get "FAYTE"

I agree with the above, if you want "Fete" to count, you need to remove the circumflex, otherwise it sounds like "get" instead of "fate".

@Jerez I think it's 'fait accompli'. Also since when did 'plait' rhyme with late? if it's in the sense of a plait of hair, I've only ever heard it as rhyming with 'vat'... but I guess it might be pronouned differently in the US (I'm British)

Good quiz, but trickier than expected. Surprised at just how many words rhyme with "late". Speaking of the word "late", it was the favorite word of one of my ex-colleagues. He was always accusing me (falsely) of being late for work, when in fact I worked different hours to him, primarily because I worked in a higher position.

@Kiwi - Whoops, you are so right about "fait accompli"! That was a dumb blonde moment. That being the case, I do still stand by my belief that you can only claim "fete" rhymes with LATE if you remove the circumflex. Although, come to think of it, I don't think I've ever heard it pronounced that way. And, yes, in the U.S. we pronounce "plait" like "late."

brastone and jerez--In English "fete" can be pronounced either way, but the preferred pronunciation is a long A. In English it isn't written with a circumflex. The preferred pronunciation of "plait" is also with a long A, and I've never heard it any other way.

I'm in Scotland and I've rarely only rarely heard "fete" pronounced in a way that DOESN'T rhyme with "late". I think pronouncing it as "fet" is a Southern English thing. I regularly hear "plait" being pronounced both ways.

I agree with the above commenters (is that a word?) that fete, even without the accent mark, has never rhymed with late in my area of the USA. And while I found ait in the on-line Webster's, it is not in my trusty Webster's hard copy.
