You might say this is a language quiz. Yet, it teaches you more about geography itself than whether a country has the letter P in it not...

I've reduced the time to 3 minutes. I know it's gonna be mostly hardcore Sporclers that will be playing this, so I thought that would make it more of a challenge.

I would have appreciated an extra minute or two, but I see where you're coming from

wow that is a tough time constraint. Agree that I would have liked another minute having only got 36 but it's good to have some hard quizes. Really good fun :)

Want me to up it to 4? I can if you want to. Probably will, now. I just hope there's none I've missed 'cause I was relying on that Wikipedia map which is unclear for very small countries... but I managed to think of the Maldives, and checked Comoros but it's got other languages along with Arabic. If you know your history making this quiz becomes easier.

The only thing is that some hardcore Sporclers could probably rattle out most of the countries of the world in 4 minutes, and if they know a bit about history and language and geography they could get this quiz easily. But I suppose not everyone is that much of a nerd.

Belarus has both a Cyrillic and Latin script, Kazakhstan switched to Latin after 1991, and I don't think Bhutanese uses a Latin alphabet. Otherwise, good job.

kokis, Turkish is also an official language in Cyprus, and that does use a Latin alphabet.

Vietnam? Hello?

What's your point, Trazom? Vietnamese has been universally written in the Latin alphabet for decades, so it rightly does not belong on this list. Good quiz!

My point is that I'm pig-ignorant, I guess :) I was surprised not to find Vietnamese on the list, and Wikipedia says that it uses something it calls the "Vietnamese alphabet," which would seem to be close to but not identical with the Latin. Someone more knowledgeable on the subject (i.e., anyone who isn't me) could adjudicate this one. In the meantime, I do apologize for the snarky tone — the result of frustration at not doing as well on this one as I'd hoped.

Macedonia is not on here while it should, since they use the cyrillic alphabet I believe.

Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia use cyrillic, although Serbia uses both. I am not sure that I would include (for example) Turkish on here, as they use Latin letters, but also use additional letters. I know that leads us down the road of including or excluding letters unique to languages (such as the French c, or the German öüäß, Norwegian, etc), but I was suprised nonetheless.

@Trazom, Vietnamese uses Quoc Thu, which was devised by a French missionary. Before that, they used Chinese characters, and some still insist (for who knows what horrible reason) on using them today, so you're not entirely off.

English is an official language of the Indian federal government and a few states. I always thought Romaji was one of the official writing systems of Japan?
