This quiz was inspired by Laura4734's Alphabetical Harry Potter spells quiz (http://www.sporcle.com/games/Laura4734/alphabeticalhpspells). I left a comment on that quiz suggesting that she make this version as well. However, having gotten no response to that comment and with quite a bit a time having passed and the final movie coming out, I decided to go ahead and put it together. Six letters are missing because there are no known incantations that fit those letters. Multiple answers are accepted for all but the letter 'N' for which there is only one answer.

My apologies, teddylupin. I searched but yours didn't come up. Lookalike you've included just the spells in the books and I have the book and movie spells.

Do you have 'ennervate'?

Yes, notanighttroll, it's under the E's. Also, pardon the weird text in my earlier comment- I'm doing everything on my phone while on vacation, and the autocorrect bit me!

How about Oculus Reparo? I know it is just a
type
of Reparo, but shouldn't it still work? (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)

Agreed, JMAN, it's added.

What about "up" to make the broom come up? :D

Not a spell- no wands out for 'up'.

How about "Dissendium"?
Hejman

@thunder_fan62- I had dissendium in there, but had spelled it "dissemdium". It's fixed now. @kiwirosefairy- My concern with the unbreakable vow was that we don't know what the incantation is and with nearly all of the others being identified by their incantation (not their effects) it wouldn't be fair to put that in as the only 'u' spell. As such, I just left 'u' out all together.

Fera Verto, Harmonia Nectera Passus and Vipera Evanesca do not appear in the books.

"Mischief Managed", maybe?

@ngbshamrock- I just checked seven different lists of HP spells on the web and none of them included "mischief managed." I think it's considered something specific to the marauders map and not a spell.

Sorry, lieutenantdan- I had obscuro on the list, but didn't have the backslash in the right place, so it wasn't working. It's repaired now.

I can't remember where I saw it, but Flipendo is a spell I remember seeing. Perhaps it was in one of the games?

Spelling is indeed the issue @Tori and singin185. The book spellings are Homenum Revelio and Riddikulus. For the former, that's a variation from the traditional Latin and instead uses the Portuguese spelling (apparently, Rowling speaks the language). @maaxwell- Flipendo is used only in video games.

Hey Hejman, I'm glad you liked my quiz idea...I hadn't seen that comment, actually - I must have missed the email...I probably would have created it, I guess, as I have a quiz using the alphabet in that way (http://www.sporcle.com/games/Laura4734/hpmagicalcreatures) Well, no worries, doesn't matter! I love all your HP quizzes :)

Sorry, Laura! I waited about two months after leaving my comment. In fact, my fear was that you just hadn't seen it. That's why I'm so glad that Sporcle now has the feature where they'll email you when there are new comments on your quizzes. Keep making new Sporcle quizzes- and put some in my section too! (Mscl.)
