Having read through the series a few times and listened to Jim Dale's incredible audiobook performance, I was very pleased a few weeks ago to acquire copies of the British version of the audiobooks for books 1-5, read by Stephen Fry. It immediately became apparent to me that there were numerous changes in language between the two versions and so, while walking to work, I would make a note on my phone of words that I was pretty sure had been changed and then would check them against my American version hard cover books.
Not all of the changes are included here. It's likely that I missed a few (one does have to watch for cars while walking to work so that one doesn't get run over) and some just would have been impossible or obtuse in a quiz. I have to admit that I learned several new words and phrases (set books, bobble hats and revision tables among them). All of these changes are from Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone. I'm not sure how many more unique alterations there will be in the other books, but if there are enough for a sequel to this quiz, then I'll certainly make one. |
