Can you name the (non-human*) animals who have been launched into space?
created by
Hejman
Enter an animal in the box below
Correctly named animals will show up below
Answers do not have to be guessed in order
Source:
History of Non-human astronauts
*Not because humans aren't animals, but because they're too painfully obvious to be included. Date listed is the first date of the flight of that type of animal.

I have listed the different kinds of fish/monkey, etc. on different lines, however simply typing the generic "fish" will give you all of them. I have only listed the first flight of each animal. There have been quite a few dogs, monkeys, etc.

Highly enjoyable quiz. A little surprised the Guinea Pig wasn't first!

Could we have "bird" be an acceptable answer for the chicken eggs and the quail?

Intrigued about a bird attempting to fly in zero gravity.

Great quiz! I'd be curious to know which of the animals returned to Earth alive - Wikipedia suggests that most of the water bears survived in a good enough condition to produce embryos upon their return to Earth.

@Shay- after the early flights, nearly all of them. In fact, the nematodes were the only survivors of the Columbia disaster.

Unless I'm mistaken, the tardigrades were actually launched into the vacuum of space. They survived, because tardigrades are cool like that

You fool! Now we may never know if ants can be trained to sort tiny screws in space!

What about Laika?

@CCCP- As the note at the top says, the date listed is the first flight of that type of animal, and while Laika was the first dog to orbit the planet (on Sputnik 2 in 1957) the dogs listed made a sub-orbital space flight on July 22, 1951.

You know you should just hit "Give Up" when you are at the point where you are trying "Elephants", "Lions", "Panthers" and the sort.
