| @dutchbear The Arab world has had some pretty giant human rights violations itself, and yet I don't see a lot of Arab countries on here. Even if you use the broadest definition of Arab world, out of 21 states only 4 (Iraq, Libya, Somalia, and Sudan) are on that list. You know, not the ones on the Arabian Peninsula who are wealthy and have oil the West would like. Or Syria. Or, for that matter, the Palestinian Authority, which has also done illegal and awful things.
For that matter, I don't see lots of places that could have used some sanctioning. Chile under Pinochet? Romania under Ceaușescu? China? Or the United States?
I'm not defending Israel here, but the only double standard is that rich, developed countries with friends on the Security Council can get away with terrible things, and poor, lonely ones cannot. |
