| Ted Williams literally missed out on this by 1 hit. In 1949 (coming off back to back batting titles), he finished 2nd to George Kell by .0002 while playing in 21 more games that season. If he had just one more hit (or one fewer at-bat), he would have finished with the crown. He had 2 in a row, three different times, and one leading into World War II, so yes that had a lot to do with him not winning several in a row. Amazingly, one of his "2 in a row" batting title feats came when he was 38 and 39 and he finished 2nd when he was 37. If you haven't noticed, I love Ted Williams. |
