While doing research for a possible sequel to the Animals by Skeleton quiz, I came across the work of Portland artist, filmmaker and composer Michael Paulus. I emailed him and he has very kindly given permission for me to use the images here.
What you see here are the right halves of drawings that show the base artwork on the left half and the skeleton on the right half. The complete works can be seen (and purchased!) on Michael's website, which is linked at the top of the quiz.

plus quite a few cartoons that i have never heard of, but mostly got them right by guessing, or having the answer showing up for a different skeleton than i expected.

@trusting365- Fortunately, Sporcle is all about teaching you new things, not just reminding you of things you already knew. I had never heard of Shmoo, for instance, but looked him (it?) up and learned some very interesting things.

If only there were some way to hint that six of them were characters from Peanuts without flat-out giving that away.

@ndkchk- I'll add a note that there may be multiple characters from the same television show or comic strip.

I don't really get it. I got some, but only by guessing, and I don't really see what these drawings have to do with those characters.

@gbv- Did you follow the link and look at the full drawings with the character sketch next to the skeleton drawing? No? Try it!

Pretty awesome, but you may have to many from the Peanuts.

I suggest accepting powderpuff girls and the other girls' names for Bubbles, as it's impossible to tell the difference between them just by a skeleton

@redsxfenway- The show is "Powerpuff Girls" (no 'd') and that answer is already accepted.

My thanks, again, to Michael Paulus for permission to use his drawings here. If you follow the source link at the top of the quiz, you'll see his sketches of the characters to left of the skeleton sketches that you see here. Some of these are more obvious than others, but they were so much fun that I thought they just begged to be a Sporcle quiz. You can purchase most of these by clicking on the "store" tab on his site.

Wow, these are great! I was a bit thrown off by all the 'Peanuts' characters though - I wouldn't have thought so many of them would be from the same series.

I also really liked Paulus' collection, this was a blast. Only one minor frustration, and that is that Egghead Jr. is alternately referred to as Eggbert, which I was typing frantically. Either way, thanks for a fun and disturbing quiz.

A) these were creepy as hell. B) there were some that could be about five others (e.g. what's the difference between Pigpen's and Schroeder's skeletons?)

Cool idea, but some of these could have been anybody. Once I saw the answers, NONE of them were made me say,"Ohhh! Of course!" The Betty Boop one was obvious, even though I got 5 other ones right, but that's what I expected more or less from the others.

I was previously unaware that Peppermint Patty was an amputee. Definitely spent a good two minutes trying to figure out wht cartoon character was missing their right arm because of the positioning.
