	Put this together while on vacation. Basically, it involved a lot of reading Harry Potter on the beach and making notes on the back of bookmark. As such, I may have missed a character or two- please let me know if I did. If this is well received, I may do a second quiz for books 5-7.

	A few notes- The first and last name requirement is because there are many characters with the same last name. Only named characters are included. In some cases, the chapter title should immediately give you a character. In others (The Keeper of the Keys, The Potions Master), the main subject of the chapter has already appeared in a previous chapter and you'll need to think harder. Hopefully it's challenging and fun!

	This is a really great idea (and definitely super challenging!), and maybe I'm not as sharp on my Harry Potter as I used to be, but some of them might me a little obscure. There were one or two I wouldn't have been able to guess even if I'd just finished the books, but I suppose that's what makes it challenging! All in all, though, definitely a great quiz. It's refreshing not to see an HP quiz that's not just naming off trivia!

	@amb734- It's not as challenging as it looks. I only list one possible character in the answer space, but nearly all of these chapters have multiple new characters and some of them have 10 or more. It really comes down to thinking about what actions happens in these chapters and who is likely to appear in them.

	@mschilcrat- I have no idea what you're talking about. The quiz only displays one answer, but it accepts EVERY new character in that chapter. For some chapters there are a dozen or more answers. Please read the instructions before you incorrectly trash a quiz. @Flatlined- EVERY character from these chapters is included, even the minor ones. Again, please actually read the instructions and note before making such a claim. EVERY NAMED CHARACTER IN THESE CHAPTERS IS INCLUDED.

	Just as a point of clarification- the answer space only lists one possible answer because there are only so many characters permitted in the answer line. As a result, I can't have the quiz display all the correct answers. I've set it instead to display only one answer. If that answer is followed by three dots, it means there are multiple other accepted answers for that chapter. If there are no dots, then there is only one new character in that chapter.

	You have Narcissa Malfoy being introduced in the Chapter Quidditch World Cup, but if my memory serves me correctly, we were introduced to her in Madam Malkins in one of the earlier chapters of the first book. We don't know her by name but as Malfoys mother.

	Ok- Question to all- would it be better if I didn't make it forced answer and you could just randomly guess characters? Should I make a third, overflow, column so all the names could be displayed?

	I don't think we should just be able to guess random characters. I would like to see all the characters first mentioned in a chapter because I guessed Harry for the first one, got it correct, and then kept trying to guess Hagrid for the third answer.

	I would be interested to see a third column showing each character. As for forced answer: that's tough because based on the results, the quiz is too hard with the forced answer, but if you turn it off, it would probably be too easy. I lean toward turning it off for the simple reason that only two answers are above 25%.

	I like the forced answer format. I think turning it off would make the quiz way too easy - it would simply be naming as many characters in Harry Potter as possible.

	Third column added! Hopefully this will make a lot more sense and it will now be more obvious that I've included everyone. Actually, I compiled much of this quiz on my phone in the car on a cross-country road trip, so I may have missed someone (as I did with Sirius). If that's the case, please point it out so I can add them.

	Clearly, just from looking at the chapter numbers, not every chapter is included. Frankly, some chapters (like 'The Sorting Hat' in book one) simply had too many characters to fit in the space Sporcle allows for answers. That's why some characters are not listed. I have to admit, I'm really quite flummoxed by the difficulty people are having with the concept of this quiz. Clearly, I've done a poor job of explaining it, but I'm frustrated figuring out how to explain it better. Ah well, such is Sporcle- I'll try to do better next time.

	Voldemort should be an answer for the first one, not the third one. He is mentioned when Mcgonagall and Dumbledore are talking about the Potters.

	Voldemort is counted in both, since he's hinted at but not named in the earlier chapter. Have fixed the spelling of Flamel's first name. My son's name is Nicholas (with the h) and that spelling comes by force of habit. Thanks!

	Please don't get overly defensive. I'll admit a few of the chapters I had problems with were my own fault - I checked the books again to confirm. But there are people missing. 1:2 - Mrs. Figg, 1:6 Augusta "Gran" Longbottom, Scabbers (Peter Pettigrew), Trevor the toad, and all of the Chocolate Frog characters, 1:9 - Madam (Rolanda) Hooch. I admire the work you put into this quiz - it's not easy, that's for sure! I've only got that many from an hour and a half of re-reading. I'm sorry many of us have underestimated the time invested in this (such is the Internet - full of people who think everything must be just as they want and perceive it). Thanks for the quiz, and I hope I may have helped a bit.

	As far as I know the ghoul in the Weasleys' attic appears for the first time in chapter 3 of the Chamber of Secrets... overall this was an amazing idea, it definitely looks like it took a lot of work!

	I had a little confusion at the outset, because I typed Voldemort for the first chapter and it worked, but he didn't show up on the right hand side. Then, for the life of me, I couldn't come up with anyone else for chapter 1:4. Kinda threw off the whole game for me.

	One suggestion - can you accept only last names for most people and only require full names for Weasleys, Dursleys, Dumbledores, Lovegoods, Longbottoms, Malfoys, and the like? I'm so used to only typing in last names for all these minor characters - it's really hard to remember first names as well. Out of curiosity - why didn't you include Snape's first chapter?

	@Blimpyboy- I'd like to be consistent with the names. The instructions clearly say you need both. Considering the number of families where there are multiple family members, I would get far more complaints if I required first names for only half of the characters herein. @Misterf- The ghoul does not have a name and, as the note says, only named characters are included.

	@Flatlined- I never get overly defensive, just exactly defensive enough! :-) Seriously though, I'm always happy to have people suggest improvements. It's when people attack a quiz because they haven't bothered to read the instructions that I get frustrated. Now to those very helpful suggestions; Mrs. Figg IS in 1:2 and always has been. I neglected Scabbers (he's added) but the name "Peter Pettigrew" isn't mentioned until 3:10 and is listed there. I totally blanked on Gran Longbottom! I made a note on my bookmark to look up her first name and then my brain got addled by Atlantic surf. She's in there now. I honestly left Trevor out on purpose, but now regret that decision. He's a non-magical animal, but so are the owls, frankly, so I'll add him in. I also left out the Chocolate Frog names on purpose because they're just historical mentions, not actually characters in the books. Madam Hooch is first mentioned in chapter 7, when Dumbledore makes an announcement about quidditch tryouts. She's not in the quiz because there are too many new characters in Chapter 7 for them to fit in the answer space that Sporcle allows. So, two animals and a grandmother- good catches, thanks!
