	@floydpink- John Edwards was the nominee for Vice-President in 2000 and was a candidate for the nomination in 2004 and 2008, but he was never the Democratic nominee for President.

	They were. Just like Ford was born in Nebraska, Reagan in Illinois, Obama in Hawaii, etc etc. Born in and "representing" isn't always the same thing.

	The quiz needs to clarify what "hails from" means. Does it mean born in a state or living in that state when nominated?

	@pirate6711- The reference is to the state that the candidate was officially representing (i.e. registered in) at the time of their nomination. For example, on a vice presidents version of this quiz, Dick Cheney would count for Wyoming not for Texas, since he changed his residency in order to run. As the note states, there is only one possible correct answer to each question via the use of multiple candidates for each state.

	@backer- Dr. Paul was the Libertarian nominee in 1988, appearing on the ballot in 46 states and garnering 432,000 votes nationwide.

	@barnztormre- Thurmond was the only candidate ever for the short-lived State's Rights Democratic Party (or 'Dixiecrats') in the 1948 election. He carried four states- South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, garnering 39 electoral votes. This split in the Democratic party was thought to be too much for Truman to overcome (thus the famously incorrect Chicago Tribune headline on 11/3/48 'Dewey Defeats Truman'), but Truman went on to win 303-189-39. Take a look at some of the things that Thurmond said about segregation in that campaign and you'll see that his statements were truly frightening. I would be remiss though, not to point out that Thurmond's views on racial issues changed over time and he ultimately voted in favor of making Martin Luther King Jr. Day a holiday in 1983.

	@hejman: I was aware that he softened his views in later life, but at the time of his running he was still a hardcore segregationist and the thought of someone with those views running the country is, as you said, frightening.

	@Hejman: I certainly know John Edwards was not nominated by the Democrats. However, I would submit that a serious contender for a major party's nomination is at least as historically significant as a third-party nominee with no chance of victory (Nader, Paul, etc.). Further, you have other people on here who were not "nominees," since nominees did not exist in their time (Oliver Ellsworth, for example).

	On quizzes where the answers are states of the Union, why are the legal, two letter, postal abbreviations never accepted? It would be so much easier, yet still correct, to be able to type in MA, PA, or CT for some of the longer states on a timed quiz.

	@floydpink- All of the persons on this quiz were candidates in the general election, after the initiation of that process, or received electoral votes prior to the initiation of a general election process. That is to say that they were all candidates for the office, not merely candidates for a nomination.

	@hejman: If receiving an electoral vote is your standard, then Edwards did receive one electoral vote in 2004, from a faithless elector (in Minnesota, I think). In any case, you will do what you think is best; I was simply trying to suggest an addition that would be helpful with what is, far and away, the hardest slot on the quiz.

I didn't want to use the faithless elector candidates because many of them weren't even running and I thought that would be confusing. @TJL- Thanks for noticing! I always try to do something different with the URLs

	Gerald Ford rightfully belongs to Nebraska NOT Michigan, he was born in Omaha, NE...maybe add him to both?

	@plvcolin- I'm not sure how you conclude that Ford 'rightfully belongs' to Nebraska. This isn't a quiz about president's birth states. Ford was born in Nebraska, but lived there about two weeks before his mother moved, first to Illinois and then to Michigan. He went to school in Michigan, represented the 5th District of Michigan in the House of Representatives for 24 years and was registered as a voter in Michigan at the time of his 1976 campaign for President.

	Benjamin Harrison lived in Ohio until he was 21 years old. That's quite a long time. Meanwhile, his grandfather could just as easily have been used since he, embarrassingly short though it may have been, he is at least associated with being the only president "from" Indiana. (Yes, I realize he moved to Indiana even later than B. Harrison did, but I'm just pointing out the stronger association with W. Harrison)
