It's "Mr. Spock" not "Dr. Spock".

Grissom, White and Chaffee were the crew for Apollo 1, not Apollo 3. Apollo 3 was never an official manned Apollo mission, the next manned flight would be named Apollo 7.

Ugh. Absolutely right. Amazing how I can know something is wrong and still put it in as answer because, well, that's what my hand-written notes say so it must be right! Apollo 1 is corrected. My apologies for it having been wrong.

Hans Reinhardt was never on the Palomino, his ship was the cygnus. Technically, Apollo 13 isn't the name of the spaceship, it was the name of the mission. The command module was called Odyssey and the lunar module was Aquarius.

Clearly, it's been too long since I've seen The Black Hole. Crew list fixed and Odyssey & Aquarius added as accepted answers.

@TubeChat- You're thinking of the first book, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.' There was no space travel in that book and Grandma Josephine never got out of bed. The reference here (and the only space travel involved) is from the sequel, 'Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.'

Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think Roald Dahl used the word "Wonkavator" at all. I think that was invented for the Gene Wilder movie adaptation. So it's not just that it's the wrong book, but the fact that the term is a movie word only and this clue is in the literary section. But if you've seen the movie adaptations but not read the books- go do so, they're a fun and quick read.

Great suggestion, ZapRowsdower! The Druidians will be none to happy with you. It was a tough decision, sfrano08, to leave out Babylon 5, but there were a ton of potential TV shows and movies. Since Babylon 5 (and Deep Space 9) centered on space stations I stayed away from them to avoid confusion.

I say the TARDIS should be on here. Primary function is a time and space machine, but it can fly through space like the rest! ;)

@DanRoc- Wonkavator isn't the answer. In fact, I don't believe the term "Wonkavator" was used in the book at all- it was a creation of the movie. Anyway, the ship in question here is from the sequel, "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator" in which the entire family (including all the grandparents) travel into space to the Space Hotel and then back to Earth again. Grandma Josephine is there to let you know that I'm referring to the book (it's in the literature section) and that I'm referring to the sequel.

A bit of a shame that John Glenn is the one listed here for the Mercury program. I would have gone with Alan Shepard, seeing as he was the first American in Space.

@jism- John Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth, was a United States Senator for 25 years, is the oldest person ever to fly in space and is the only person to have flown in both the Mercury and Space Shuttle programs. Not sure how that qualifies as being a shame! My apologies to Alan Shepard, though- it was a tough call.

Could have done the White Star for Babylon 5 or the Defiant for DS9. For something newer you could have done the Destiny for Stargate Universe. Also, no TARDIS?u

It's odd that three of the five real ships you chose are (in)famous for disasters- I understand you have to go with ones people would know, but surely there are others famous for successful missions like the Columbia & Eagle of Apollo 11, or the not-very-creatively-named SpaceShipOne.

You should accept some common misspellings for Millennium Falcon. I had no idea it had two N's and got incredibly frustrated.

@JimmyJames- I didn't think I was focusing on disasters, I thought I was paying homage to the crews of Apollo 1 and the Challenger making the ultimate sacrifice in an effort to further human kind's quest for knowledge and understanding.

It was absolutely a legitimate observation jimmyjames, I was just trying to explain why I made those choices. I hope you enjoyed the quiz even with the accident-heavy real section. Even more importantly, I think you make a great observation that we've gotten so complacent about space travel that we take notice only when there's an accident.

Great quiz. I could make two arguments that "Ringworld" should be an alternative to "Long Shot". One, it's an artificial world designed to be a VERY-long-distance space vessel (per "Ringworld Engineers"). Two, I nearly pulled my hair out trying (unsuccessfully) to remember the name of the damn ship they flew to it, so accepting it as an alternate would help slow my male pattern baldness.

James Bond wasn't really a crew member of the Moonraker, was he? On board, sure, but not really one of the ones operating it.
