Kudos for including my all time favorite Jim Rockford.

Actually, strictly speaking, Clarice Starling is a FBI agent (in The Silence of the Lambs still a student), not a police detective, nor Private Eye. Though her work definitely is more like Detective work.

I've obviously not included all of the great fictional detectives here. Who would you like to see in a sequel?

Scott Turner (Hooch), Nick and Nora Charles (The Thin Man), Charlie Chan, McCloud, anyone from the 12th Precint (Barney Miller), Axel Foley, Sipowicz, John McClane, Crockett or Tubbs, Ironside, Phillip Marlowe??, Jake Gittes, Edmund Exley or Bud white, Captain Louis Renault to get you started... very good quiz with this one.

Your sequel should definitely include Shaft (either Richard Roundtree or Samuel L. Jackson). Plus, there are a bunch of detectives from the Law and Order franchise to choose from.

Add Jane Tennison to the sequel suggestions. I'm annoyed with myself that I couldn't remember Jessica's last name.

I believe Inspector Morse's first name is spelled with a
u
(like the space shuttle).
As for a sequel, I enthusiastically second
debbiedoesnothin
's suggestion, and I'd also like to nominate D.C.S. Christopher Foyle.

Anyone from the 12th preceint would be good, but the best would be "Inspector Frank Luger, NYPD" Of course it is impossible to include everyone, but a quiz could exist of just the Sunday Night Mysteries from ABC

Whoops those mysteries were on NBC and although not a popular quiz, it was done by tomaha.

To be fair, not all of these are technically 'detectives'. Samuel Gerard is a US Marshall & Starling in an FBI agent-in-training. Good quiz though.

From Webster's dictionary: 'Detective, noun- one employed or engaged in detecting lawbreakers or in getting information that is not readily or publicly accessible.' I would assert that these people are all, very technically, detectives.

Great quiz, though I wish you had chosen Jeremy Brett as your Holmes rather than Downey (couldn't even get through the first one). As for the sequel, Kenneth Branagh as Wallender, and I have a special fondness for Inspector Lewis (and even more fondness for his detective sergeant, Hathaway).

9.8% on Rick Deckard!? Everyone, stop what you are doing right now and watch Blade Runner, it is arguably the best sci-fi movie of all time and a great film-noire style mystery!
