| This is a slight pet peeve of mine, but the party of Jefferson, Madison, Monroe et al weren't generally called Democratic-Republicans, but usually were referred to (and referred to themselves) as simply Republicans. I know we use Democratic-Republicans to distinguish them from the modern Republican party, and to be fair sometimes the "Democratic" moniker was added in some contemporary writing. And yeah this is a niggling pedantic point that will probably be voted down, but it's something that always annoys me. |
