Two minutes too much? Should it be one?
| LTH: | Apr 5th, 2012 at 04:13 GMT | | 2 points |
I think two minutes is fine but the O in Bifur's name should be U.

I like the LOTR series, but am not familiar with everyone; however, I don't understand why 'G' doesn't show up as a dwarf. Could you explain? Thanks.

If you're referring to Gimli, he's a dwarf, but he's not in the Hobbit, he's in the Lord of the Rings.

| Oh, I'm so dumb.......I thought you meant pick out the dwarves from the hobbits (race)! Great quiz, and I'm off to look contrite.
:) |

Good point, bows- I've changed the wording of the question to avoid that confusion.

30 seconds. One minute should be plenty.

Excellent quiz. I loved the book and can't wait for the movie!

First guess was Gimli...I better stick to LotR movie quizzes

Hmm, I think maybe the time limit is a touch excessive - I got all 14 in just over 30 seconds. But then again, I am a huge Hobbit fan :S

I don't remember Dain...somehow I thought there were only 13 (hence needing a Bilbo as a 14th member of the party). What am I missing/forgetting?
| beforever: | Apr 22nd, 2012 at 08:04 GMT | | 2 points |
Dain is least guessed! Somebody should study this...
| Hejman: | Apr 22nd, 2012 at 14:41 GMT | | 6 points |
@elirose- Dain is Thorin's second cousin and leads his army of dwarves into the battle of the five armies. Ultimately he becomes King Under the Mountain when Thorin is killed.

It would also be fun to try and match the dwarf with his picture.

Props for including Dain--I almost forgot about him! Also, good work on the selection of wrong answers--nice variety.

I immediately just went for the main 13, then thought the quiz was broken. Then I remembered my friend uses Dwarves in Lotr the game and I just had a sudden realisation. Well Played, great quiz.

It definitely helped that I've been scrambling to re-read the book before the movie comes out. Otherwise, I'm sure I would have fallen for the Gimli decoy.

Dang! I knew Gimli isn't in The Hobbit, but I clicked it anyway my first time through.

Laughing at Pharr and I hit Dopey by accident.

LOL, to the seven dwarves thing...

Before I hit "Play" I thought, no way I was going to get these. Then I remembered that many of them rhymed, so I ended up only missing two. Woo-hoo!

Nice quiz. Forgot about Dain.

Interesting (not really) fact: popular IQ tests from the eighties used to have questions like "If every Balin is also a Bifur and some Bomburs are Balins then..."

A note for those who are curious about the wrong answers. Many are other Middle Earth characters who are not dwarves or who appear in the Lord of the Rings or the Silmarillion, but not in The Hobbit. Kuzdul is the language of the dwarves. Two are Snow White dwarves. Brimir and Blainn are alternate names for Ymir, the Norse god who is lord of the dwarves (and also the name of a mythological hall). Ramme and Pharr are inside jokes to those familiar with Sporcle (which is why caramba notes his laughter in his comment above). Matt Ramme is Sporcle's creator/founder and Derek Pharr is it's VP of products (http://www.sporcle.com/about.php). If you have as much fun on Sporcle as I do then you owe those two men (and others who I don't mean to slight) an awful lot of thanks.

"Gimli"--Doh!
| JamesJonathan: | Dec 12th, 2012 at 22:15 GMT | | 3 points |
Got the first 13, then tried to figure out whether the last one was Gimli or Dain. I was pretty sure Gimli wasn't in The Hobbit, but I remembered Dain only as the earlier king, not realizing there were two with that name.
