	@tk_go_giants: Eckstein hit .364, and in the dramatic game 4 win he scored the tying run and drove in the winning run. In game 5 he drove in the go-ahead run and scored another run. He was a perfectly fine choice as MVP. And if you're talking overall career, I invite you to compare him to Bucky Dent before you start tossing insults.

	Disclaimer: I have always respected David Eckstein as a ballplayer for his hustle. He is just not a very good baseball player. @Theron Bucky Dent was pretty average too, but it's not like Eckstein was any better. I think Eck's career OPS+ is 100. That's the definition of the replacement player. And although he was a "perfectly fine" choice, he probably wasn't the best choice, given that there were three other players on his team- Pujols, Molina, and Rolen- who had higher World Series OPSs. Adam Wainwright would have also been a good choice with 3 relief appearances, no runs allowed, 1 win, 1 save, and a WHIP of 1. So Eck maybe wasn't the best choice. And also, he is the worst player out of all the World Series MVPs.

	100 OPS+ is way better than replacement from a decent defensive SS. You have to be kidding about being the worst player to win WS MVP. Even if we ignore pitchers from the 50s, there's a number of guys around Eckstein's level (Knight, Dempsey, Yeager, Brosius). Oh, and Pat Borders!

	@Theron: Just for information purposes, in that World Series, Scott Rolen had an OPS of 1.213, went 8 for 19 (.421) with 3 doubles and a HR. Sean Casey, though playing for the Tigers (Bobby Thompson won an MVP for the losing team in 1960), went 9 for 17 (.529), with 2 HR and 2 doubles and OPSed a ridiculous 1.556. But yeah, Eckstein wasn't a bad choice. Interesting note, too: in 2010, Eckstein played nearly 1,000 innings at second base and did not commit an error.

	i got viola because the of the picture of morris. i thought it was viola at first, and i remembered he won ws mvp. would have forgot otherwise.

	@rct-It was Bobby Richardson that won the MVP in 1960 with the Yankees. Bobby Thomson hit that homerun in 1951. As for who the best or worst players to win this award was, who really cares. They had a good 4-7 games and (generally) played for the winning team. I can tell you of HOFers who have not performed well in the World Series. Does that suddenly make a Dent or an Eckstein a better player than Ted Williams or Ty Cobb? Of course not. But come October, they performed better.

	@rct: Yeah, and if it had been up to me, I'd have picked Rolen. But Eckstein was huge in both game 4 and game 5, the two close Cardinal wins, so taking leverage into account I had no problem with the pick.

	@Giggity Sorry about my mistake. According to baseball-reference.com, Eckstein's career OPS+ is actually 87. He also consistently posts a negative FRAA, so he's not that great of a fielder either. I may have been short-sighted in labeling him the worst World Series MVP ever, but he certainly is no better than the replacement player.

	@bmo1616 All MLB players are ridiculously good at baseball. But that wouldn't get you anywhere in analysis. It's just relative. I think I speak on behalf of everyone who has ever analyzed or had an opinion on any sport, ever, when I say that just because we call someone "not very good at their sport" doesn't mean that we think the average person could fill their spot. It wouldn't really do us any good to say that a below-average baseball player was "one of the best in the world", would it?

	Congratulations to the Rangers on a great season and to the Giants on their first Championship since 1954 (at least my poor, lowly, Indians aren't the last team they've beaten in the WS now). Congrats also to the new "R" entry on this list for his MVP award.
