Just as trademarks are registered images, sound marks are registered sounds. Each of these sounds is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. #1 is a 'gimmie'. They get harder after that!

I'm trying out a new way to present a sound clips quiz. Rather than a youtube contribution, this quiz uses Sound Cloud (www.soundcloud.com). The idea came from the Sporcle admins who pointed it out after the Smithsonian used the site for their jazz compilation quiz.

Devilishly clever and original! Sporcle ought to adopt the soundcloud feature as the industry standard.

Glad you liked it, BombaySapphire. I particularly like that the individual quiz taker can move easily between sound samples and has greater control over when they play and pause. It sure is a lot easier to go back to answers that you've missed in this set-up.

The SoundCloud format is great. My only beef is that Mister Softee isn't a national brand. I've never heard of them, and Wikipedia says they only operate in 15 states.

Hejman I will never know what you do to make these types of quizzes lol. But for the last one you should still accept espn, but have "Sportscenter" show up, becausethat is sportscenters theme, not espn's

@adamnvillani- Fair point. I've replaced Mr. Softee with a national (in fact, international) company. @Navarro2814- I've changed the displayed answer to include both the show and network as I did with 60 minutes.

I thought I had 'Sportscenter' as an answer but in fact, I had entered "Sporcenter" instead. (Sporcenter, obviously, would be a Home & Garden program that showed only highlights of mold.) It should be working now!

I really like soundcloud and find it much better than youtube as I can just instantly click the track. But one gripe is that it didn't move with the track so I couldn't keep track of where I was. Anyone else have this issue?
On to content - great overall. I had a gripe with a pair of answers. Shouldn't Fox be acceptable for number 2 and not 19? 19 is a specific trademark to a program on the TV network - granted as to who owns what is a mess. I looked at the wiki pages before commenting and it seems like my thoughts are somewhat correct.

@GPB- The trademark on #2 is registered to "20th Century Fox" and the trademark on #19 is registered to "Fox" or "Fox television."

20th Century Fox is now Fox Movies and I'm sure the trademark carried over to the new name, so I think Fox ought to be accepted for #2.

What *is* the context of the Anheuser-Busch sound clip? I was so sure that it was the howl of Dick Wolf's production company, the one that plays at the end of Law & Order. But I can't figure out what A-B product it's used for.

@Tahnan- I recall a series of commercials in the 80s for one of Busch's beers (Michelob perhaps?) that ended with that howling wolf sound, but I've just spent 30 minutes searching the web for an example of it and struck out. I'll keep looking and link to it if I can find one.

Well, I couldn't find an example and only 2% of people were getting it right, so I'm switching it out with another sound mark. It'll take soundcloud about 30 minutes to make the switch over in the embed.

I. HATE. THX. Seriously, I hope everybody at that meeting dies a slow and painful death: "Hey, we need a trademark sound." "How about one that not only shows how good our sound is, but also taps into the deepest fears of any child?" "Genius! A promotion to however said that!"

The idea came from the Sporcle admins who pointed it out after the Smithsonian used the site for their jazz compilation quiz. You can jump around wherever you want in the sounds and pause and play freely. A single click plays a track, another click (or a double click initially) pauses it. I think this makes sound quizzes much easier to play, but I'd love to hear your feedback!

The only issue I had was scrolling through the list to get to the sounds I wanted to have repeated. The little scroll bar is not easy to get to. Unless I'm missing an easier way to scroll through the list.

Yeah good format. Much better than youtube. I still get frustrated by the fact that navigating the sound optiosn loses focus on the answer field, but it's hard to imagine a simple solution for that with current web technology.

@ZapRowsdower- I agree, but I think you're right that there's no easy answer to that. @timsouders09- I've added 'globetrotters' and fixed the answer issue that prevented you from getting looney tunes.
