qbigturnip: while your points are all valid in themselves, many of these things are contested. There is no "one clear" definition what constitutes Europe, so yes, Sporcle does make up its own facts (called conventions for not sounding too harsh). So does every other source. While you *can* state that KAZ, GEO, AZE are European (at least in parts) and you *can* say that Cyprus isn't at all, that's not the usual convention everywhere. I would still dare you to find a source (not your own, not necessarily incorrect, interpretation of European borders) that INcludes KAZ and AZE but at the same time EXcludes CYP and ARM.
The Kosovo issue of course is something different, but again, there is no clear cut way everyone uses to define a country (case in point: always see Taiwan). So Sporcle had to decide, Sporcle decided: Kosovo is considered a country for purposes here (while Northern Cyprus e.g. isn't). You may think otherwise, and you wouldn't be less correct - but at the same time not more correct.
So, you and others may not like the conventions here, others may consider them absolutely perfect, but the main point remains: this is a goddamn quiz site. We need something to work on to keep it consistent, we play a game, that's all. In- or excluding Kosovo, Abkhazia, Taiwan, Palestine, ... will not help to resolve any real issues that are existant with these entities. It's of no importance to the world outside of Sporcle gaming. If you believe that one of these should or should not be treated as a country, advocate it out there. In here, it does not help. |
