	Luxembourg has 3 official languages: Luxembourgish, which is the national language and is used in everyday speech, French which is used for most administrative purposes (in the courts, etc), and German which is used for many publications. The situation is a little complicated, but see Wikipedia, CIA world factbook, etc.

	Good quiz, I was able to get them all, although I had to do some country hunting to get Romania and Denmark. I don't know what your criteria for official recognition is, but German also is recognized as an official language in parts (but not all) of Nambia, Poland and Russia.

	How do you figure France? While some germanic languages (mainly Alsatian) are spoken near the German border, none are exactly German, and they have nothing like official status.

	Lambda - Would you like to define "exactly German"? Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, even large chunks of Germany proper do not speak Hochdeutsch. German is a broader concept. Alsatian is German (or as much German as Bayerisch, Plattdeutsch, Swabisch, Letzbergisch or Switzerdeutsch). And by the way.... The constitution of the Fifth Republic states that French alone is the official language of the Republic. However Alsatian, along with other regional languages, are recognized by the French government in the official list of languages of France, and may be used in courts in those regions.

	Very interesting quiz. I guess you have to keep it as officially recognised because otherwise the list could get very long! I know historically there were German speaking communities all over Europe, and there are also some communities in South America that still speak German.

	@Hamburger: they may actually SPEAK those languages, but the OFFICIAL language is always Hochdeutsch. Alsacian may be "as much German" as other German dialects, but it's High German that's official in the other countries, even places like Switzerland where local variants are much different (and much more common)

	I thought German was the official language of the Pennsylvania "Dutch". Is it different enough not to count, or does the US goverment not recognise it?

	Swell - The official language (pertaining to German) of Luxembourg is Letzburgisch, not Hochdeutsch. And, contrary to what you said, the official language here in Germany is not Hochdeutsch. It is Deutsch. Hochdeutsch is the common language all of us share, but no regional German is recognized as an official language here in Germany. It is Deutsch (and Hochdeutsch is a regional dialect, as well as the common tongue. Hochdeutsch is that which is spoken around Hannover.) A quick check confirmed as well that the official languages of Liechtenstein, Austria and Switzerland are "Deutsch" and not "Hochdeutsch". I understand, of course, that you MEANT that it is "hochdeutsch" that is spoken, but Hochdeutsch is not an official language of anyone.

	Alsatian is certainly not recognized as official by the French government. French is the one and only official language in France. Alsatian or whatever other regional language is never ever used by courts or other administrations. It's the 2nd article of the constitution "La langue de la République est le français".

	I second above. The only non French language officialy recognized is Polynesian in French Polynesia.
