| Lambda - Would you like to define "exactly German"? Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, even large chunks of Germany proper do not speak Hochdeutsch. German is a broader concept. Alsatian is German (or as much German as Bayerisch, Plattdeutsch, Swabisch, Letzbergisch or Switzerdeutsch). And by the way.... The constitution of the Fifth Republic states that French alone is the official language of the Republic. However Alsatian, along with other regional languages, are recognized by the French government in the official list of languages of France, and may be used in courts in those regions. |
