Omigod, I love this list! But I hate the quiz.
The good news, wow, what unusual choices! "As", an album track from Song in the Key of Life, is one of my favorite tracks ever. It just build and builds and builds. And there are so many songs that fall into this category: not the songs you think of for the artist, but great great tracks.
But two big problems: Never in a 10 minute quiz would I work my way down a list of Stevie Wonder classics to "As", because so many of his other tracks are so much more popular. And with 100 tracks, there's no way to go that deep into every act's discography. I could list a half dozen Bill Withers songs that could have made this list, but I've never heard of "Grandma's Hands". I could have gone through 3 dozen Aretha tracks and not guessed "I Get High". Same for Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Isley Brothers and about half the list.
Second, and just as important - you've got "smart quotes" in the titles where the apostrophes are. When "I Can't Stand the Rain" didn't work for Ann Peebles didn't work, I was baffled. Of course, it is the right song, but it doesn't match due to the quotes.
So here's my suggestion: Flip the quiz around. Give us the title and have us guess the act. It reduces the mind-reading and still exposes some great great soul tracks.
And replace the #$%^# quotes! |
