| Great idea, and good effort, but it definitely needs work. To start with, you can't call it 'The names of Santa Claus' and continually include characters that can't at all be considered Santa Claus. Sinterklaas is a very different, more religious and traditional character than Santa Claus, La Befana is an old woman who's searching for the baby jesus, and the Christkind is the baby Jesus (albeit for some reason with blond hair and wings). And if you intended it to be holiday gift givers, rather than Santa specifically, you're still missing some (for example, the Magi (Spain and Latin America) and Olentzero (Basque Country)). Plus, 'Saint Nicholas' may be the greek translation of Santa Claus, but the character that brings gifts to Greek children is Saint Basil. 'Christtindl', also, should be 'Christkindl', but that actually refers to the Christkind (Jesus), because the German name for Santa is 'Weinachtsmann'. And while I very much applaud your trying to include the english translations of the foreign names, you've still missed at least one that I know of (Joulupukki means 'Yule Goat'), so that needs to be rechecked as well. |
