Would you be so kind to specify which Strauss?

you could have had a lot of alternate terms for some of these.

I do have a lot of alternate terms for some of these - and I'm happy to take any suggestions if I've missed some.

I consider myself a classical music aficionado, and I had trouble getting a lot of the pieces on this quiz that I am quite familiar with. I tried every permutation of "Entrance of the Toreadors," "Carmen Overture," etc.; "40th Symphony," since it was phrased that way for smaller numbers; "Mirlitons"; etc. etc. Please add more alternate answers.

Thanks for your help. As per my comment, above, I have tried to be as thorough as I can, but with many of these pieces (particularly given language translation) I can't possibly have got every reasonable answer, so I need that help! I have added all the answers you suggest above minus 'Carmen Overture', as Les Toreadors refers to the Toreador Song not the overture.

According to the site you source, it's not the Toreador Song (which is "Votre toast, je peux vous le rendre") but rather the entrance of the toreadors in act IV, "Les voici!" the melody of which is also in the overture or prelude.

My error (and lack of knowledge) clearly, on further research, you are correct! When I type 'Les Toreadors' into wikipedia it comes back with the Toreador Song, hence my mistake. Thank you for your illumination, and I will fix this. I hope you enjoyed the quiz in any event.

Oh, very much so. It's a good quiz - just needs more alternate answers.

Maybe you should allow "Der Holle Rache" as that's what the aria's actually called? "The Queen of the Night" is just a nickname.

For the Mozart piano sonata, I tried piano sonata, sonata in C, piano sonata in C, sonata K545, piano sonata K545, piano sonata in C K545. I have always heard it listed as K545 and I think that is the more common reference in publication.

Also for water music can you just take water music, or hornpipe, since that is section of water music to which the list is referring.
