| Thank you for your comment. I am attempting to use official (or primary) language names, per Ethnologue.com, which identifies Sinhala, Haitian and Khmer as primary language names, over Sinhalese, French-Creole and Cambodian, however I will add these as acceptable alternative answers. Ethnologue uses Lao and Slovene as primary names, so I have made those changes to the quiz as well. The Deseret Alphabet was a writing system invented and used by LDS (Mormon) President Brigham Young in the mid 1800's, reportedly because he was very bad at spelling and writing, and in his frustration decided to invent an easier writing system. It never took hold among others, and is now discontinued. However, the Book of Mormon was translated into the alphabet. The word Deseret is a special word in LDS culture, used in many different instances, and is attributed to the Adamic word for 'honeybee'. Honeybees are viewed as industrious, which continues to be desirable theme in LDS culture to this day. I am sure those surviving copies of the Deseret Book of Mormon must be quite valuable to collectors today. |
