I'm stunned that Tony Gwynn wasn't the 90s leader.

More people knew Paul Waner than Pete Rose, the all-time hits leader? Shouldn't that be the most obvious guess? Also, I second the Mark Grace surprise, I never would have guessed him.

Robin freakin' Yount. You know, from what I remember of him as a kid, he was a decent hitter but not great, and certainly never feared, but I guess he was "Decent" long enough to get those 3,000 hits. Won two MVPs too. Shows what I know.

I loved this quiz! I like seeing the classic stats divided up in interesting ways like by decade. I typed Boggs in 3 times...

Williams missed time in both the 1940s and 1950s due to service in the Marines.

Mark Grace...... wow. Love him on the Dbacks broadcasts but I would have thought it would be Henderson, Ripken, Bonds or Jeter or something in the 1990s.

Sam Rice also had over 2000 hits in the 1920s but Hornsby beat him out.

Just in case you were wondering: Ripken had 1589 hits in the 90s and Gwynn hit 1713.

This quiz just goes to show there are 4 names you should guess on every baseball quiz. Jimmie Foxx, Mell Ott, Rogers Hornsby, and Honus Wagner. At least one shows up every time it seems.

If Ichiro had played in the big leagues in 2000, he'd have the highest number of hits in any decade. Yet another reason he's going to the hall of fame (though he doesn't even qualify yet).

this was a lot harder than I thought. 10s, 70s and 2000s were the easiest I thought.

The answer for the 1990s really surprised me. I was almost certain it would have been Gwynn or Ripken.

For a challenging quiz regarding the history of home run champs, please check out my "Active HR leaders" by clicking on my screen name. It is a test to see if you know who held the title of "most lifetime HRs by an active player" year by year(s).
