Some of these may or may not
be 8-bit or 16-bit, but you get the idea. It's all about games before the first 3D console generation. I decided to split this quiz idea into three categories: the one you're looking at now, older 3D games, and current-generation games... so expect those in the near future unless I get too busy/lazy. By the way, suggestions of games I left out are welcome (I know of a few already).

Why does it accept Final Fantasy 3 for Final Fantasy 6?
Apr 29th, 2010 at 05:27 GMT
mrpot: Final Fantasy 6 was called 3 in the American release. Otherwise, really cool quiz! Very original, and fun! Couple opinions, though. I think you should get rid of the CD-i Zelda game. I also think you should shorten some of the intros, they don't need to be so long, I was skipping through a lot. If you just include crucial parts and stuff, you would make it a more enjoyable quiz and would even be able to make it longer (game wise) if you wanted to.

Fun quiz, although I think some of them are a bit too easy!
Apr 29th, 2010 at 05:45 GMT
Only 14% of people got DW3? really? That's sad. Got that one in the first note. Only one I missed was #8 and only because that is the only game on the list I never played (had to go to friend's house to play genesis games and he didn't own that one)
Apr 29th, 2010 at 06:15 GMT
I loled at Faces of Evil. Could you accept just Street Fighter for Street Fighter II? I knew it was SF but I couldn't tell which of the over 9000 versions it was

#21 is the best.
Apr 29th, 2010 at 09:49 GMT
I love it! So OK, it's a bit too easy so that might be something to have a look at in the future... But I love the concept and I would definitely like to see more of them!

Can't believe Blaster Master is last.
Apr 29th, 2010 at 13:58 GMT
Oh man, the nostalgia is killin' me! There's a lot of room for sequels, I hope to see more. Lemonator has a point that a lot of these clips could easily be trimmed down and still be quite recognizable... But then again, I relish any opportunity to listen to the epic opening tunes from Mega Man 2, Chrono Trigger, etc. :)
Apr 29th, 2010 at 15:25 GMT
Great quiz. That intro for #18 takes me back.
Apr 29th, 2010 at 16:05 GMT
Awesome quiz. #25 is still my favorite game of all time.
Apr 29th, 2010 at 19:35 GMT
I do agree with Lemonator that some of the clips were a bit too drawn-out, so I had another crack at editing the video and managed to trim off 2 and a half minutes (sorry Spacecow, but I had to cut the Mega Man 2 title screen music). Maybe I can kill the 100% on Pac-Man now that I only show the names of the ghosts... I don't like adding answers after a quiz goes live, but at least it's a bit more enjoyable now (and
ever so slightly
more difficult). Also, I noticed that I accidentally left this quiz's URL set to a temporary one I made that has nothing to do with the quiz, but I like it now. Thanks for all the feedback!

Arg. Kept trying Echo and I never realized I was spelling it wrong. Great quiz -- I'd love to see more like this.

Ep, you've awoken an unprecedentedly nerdy side of me: that version of Final Fantasy 6 isn't the SNES version, you can tell by the text and the altered translation. Yes, yes, I know, I'm scared too.
Apr 29th, 2010 at 23:11 GMT
Then JayHankEdLyon, I'll see your nerdiness and raise you 50 extra nerd points by informing that that is in fact the SNES version of FF6, it's just the RPGOne fan translation version of FF6. You can also tell it's not the GBA version by the fact that the aspect ratio would be different... So there! Now who's scary! :P
Apr 29th, 2010 at 23:30 GMT
Regardless, it's not the original game, and the point is that these are the pre-3D console generation according to the creator. Yes, this matters to me enough that I have this tab on. I really need to stop procrastinating on my finals, geez.
Apr 30th, 2010 at 01:18 GMT
Ah, false advertising, ye shall always be the scourge of YouTube. I looked harder and found what I believe to be a genuine SNES clip. The new video's being uploaded as we speak.
Apr 30th, 2010 at 09:26 GMT
The Zelda CD-I one is pretty cruel since no one ever remembers the full names of them. Would be nice if "zelda cd-i" were accepted, even if it's technically not the most accurate. Also, I was surprised at how many sequels there were here!
Apr 30th, 2010 at 20:11 GMT
Perfect score! Didn't even need the sound on.
May 1st, 2010 at 00:49 GMT
Glad to see Blaster Master. What a great game!
May 1st, 2010 at 01:29 GMT
Did... did anyone else keep fruitlessly typing in "Aladdin"?
May 1st, 2010 at 07:05 GMT
fantastic quiz. Nice to see a video quiz about video games. This is the first of its kind I've seen.
May 1st, 2010 at 07:06 GMT
I tried aladdin, then I tried Aladdin 2. Had no idea they had a Prince of Persia game that old.
May 2nd, 2010 at 02:39 GMT
I knew there were 2 PoP games that old, but I thought it was Quest for Glory and King's Quest.
May 2nd, 2010 at 20:55 GMT
There were 2 PoP games, yes, but those titles are of different series that were released around the same time as those.
May 4th, 2010 at 14:17 GMT
Duck Hunt! Fun quiz, I got a decent amount, but some of these were out when I was young enough where I don't remember the openings.
May 5th, 2010 at 00:05 GMT
damnit. I typed Echo
May 5th, 2010 at 03:30 GMT
Y'know what? I'm going to accept Echo from now on. Even the Wikipedia page for "Echo the Dolphin" is a redirect to Ecco.
Aug 17th, 2010 at 06:15 GMT
I laughed at the Zelda CD-i one a lot more than I should have.
Sep 25th, 2010 at 17:08 GMT
Congratulations Gjarble, I've made this my first Editor's Pick as the new gaming editor. Frankly, I was surprised to see that it wasn't already one!
Sep 26th, 2010 at 11:26 GMT
Got all but 2 :P Also, Zero Wing = easiest answer on quiz.
Sep 26th, 2010 at 18:29 GMT
Perhaps EarthBound could be in this quiz?
Sep 26th, 2010 at 20:47 GMT
I was rather suprised to see this old quiz in the top 10 for today, but now I see why. It's an honor, BluePikmin... perhaps this'll convince me to get off my butt and start working on the current-gen quiz.
Sep 28th, 2010 at 17:31 GMT
Interesting idea, but most of these games are pathetically easy to guess.
Sep 29th, 2010 at 01:23 GMT
can't believe so few people guessed zero wing. probably the most famous video game quote ever.
Sep 30th, 2010 at 11:45 GMT
This should get published. Loved the inclusion of Faces of Evil.
Oct 3rd, 2010 at 01:51 GMT
13# is lol. x3 Lol'd at Faces of Evil.
