A little too late in the development of this quiz, I found that there is another audio quiz about sampling (http://www.sporcle.com/games/drummy/whosampledwho). However, I believe these two quizzes to be distinct because: 1. I ask for both the sampler and the sampl-ee, 2. Part of drummy's quiz involves three-song sampling chains, 3. Only four songs (out of 11 on drummy's, 16 on mine) are shared between the two quizzes. However, if many commenters believe this quiz to be too similar, I will take it down and recommend my other songs to drummy.

I'd ditch answering in order: besides being generally unnecessary in clip quizzes is the fact that the next button doesn't follow the logical flow of the quiz (i.e. it doesn't go to the next song you need to guess).
Feb 14th, 2010 at 05:16 GMT
Answering in order doesn't do much, true, but I'd have to eliminate one Daft Punk song and one featuring Rihanna, to prevent double answers. Judging by the fact that Superheroes and its sample both have 0% right now, nobody would miss that one, but is it worth eliminating SOS? That's not a rhetorical question, but I had trouble finding any other well-known songs that didn't repeat an artist or simply "cover" the sampled track (instead of taking the recording from the original).

I don't mind the answering in order. There's plenty of time on the clock to click around. And the quiz is short enough to not be overwhelmed by repeat listenings. I also like that you allow for several choices for answers -- artist, song. You even accept Numa Numa. I give it 4 globes.

I think Vanilla Ice has made it very clear his song does not sample "Under Pressure" - after all, "Ice Ice Baby" goes Duh-Duh-Duh-Duhnuhnuhnuh-Chk, whereas "Under Pressure" goes Duh-Duh-Duh-Duhnuhnuhnuh-Chk-Chk. They aren't similar at all! It's killing me that I can't find the link to the interview where he made this claim.

A very creative use of audio & Sporcle. My only suggestion is to add a blank line on the times of the
columns of answers where either answer breaks into two lines. In this case, both 0:11s and both 1:49s. You can do that by forcing a line break (add "<br>") between the time and the year. And yeah, I vote to drop the "answers in order" requirement.
Feb 14th, 2010 at 18:14 GMT
Thanks for the line break suggestion, rockgolf... those spaces annoyed me too. Another option for removing the answers in order requirement would be to not accept just "rihanna" for Live Your Life (and, for consistency, drop the featured artists for Mo Money Mo Problems)... Is that a viable solution?

FYI, the bit you have of Bitter Sweet Symphony does NOT prominently contain the Rolling Stones orchestra sample. That sample is only heard by itself at the very beginning (i.e. the first ten seconds before the main theme comes in). It's a common misconception that the main theme is a sample, but it's not.
Feb 16th, 2010 at 10:27 GMT
not bad, but what i want to know is why did only 40% get superfreak?!?!
Feb 17th, 2010 at 02:07 GMT
MAJOR CHANGES: "answer in order" is now turned off. "Superheroes" has been removed, as it is a redundant Daft Punk answer and has the second-lowest combined guess percentage between the song and sample (the lowest being VSnares, of course). I decided not to accept featured artists alone as answers, to prevent a redundant Rihanna answer and because they aren't the "true" artist anyway.
sixsevenfiftysix: Thanks! I
under that misconception, though after listening to both tracks, I can hear the sample in the background (which is probably why you said "prominently"). Because of that, and the fact that most people are probably going to get that one because they know trivia about the Verve/Stones as opposed to "Hey! I recognize that!", the clip stays. (I'm not exactly sure if you were requesting it to be changed, anyway).
Feb 17th, 2010 at 02:09 GMT
Oh, forgot another MAJOR CHANGE: The "Mo Money Mo Problems" clip has been changed to reflect the featured artists decision. Now B.I.G. is actually the one rapping (not Puff Daddy).

Accept Rihanna for Live Your Life, considering she's the one singing.

@crow t robot, you're crazy if you think Ice Ice Baby and Under Pressure aren't similar at all.

Thank you for accepting Numa Numa. Awesome quiz.
Feb 18th, 2011 at 03:10 GMT
Great quiz. Why don't more people know about Venetian Snares?!
May 25th, 2012 at 01:18 GMT
Oh god you put Öngyilkos Vasárnap on here. Haha thanks for making me try to remember how the hell to spell that. I didn't realize it would accept the artist as well.
