I should probably list the reasoning behind the years, yeah. - While Nubia as a cultural region has been in existence for millennia, Kush is the most well-known state to have been effectively known as "Nubia", and those are the years of its control over the region. - The Ottoman Empire, as far as I can tell, is relatively clear-cut. Some definitions of its dissolution would give 1922, though... not a big difference. - Before the years listed for the Roman Empire, it was a kingdom, not an empire, and after 395, it was two empires (that was the year of its permanent division). - Wallachia was unified in 1317, and became part of Romania in 1859. - 1428 marks the creation of the Aztec Triple Alliance (the Aztec Empire "proper"), which was conquered by Cortés in 1521. - Before 1943, Yugoslavia was a kingdom. The region shifted control and identity during World War II. 1992 was the year when the independence of most Yugoslav states was recognized around the world. The remaining two re-formed a short-lived alliance under the name "Yugoslavia", which I do not count here. |
