	When the front page said you should try singing along in German, I knew which carol it was right away. I learned this song is German many years ago, thanks to John Denver and the Muppets!

	@markyb: "Just as easily" might be a bit of a stretch. However, "Lo, How a Rose E'er blooming" ("Es ist ein Ros entsprungen") would have been a good candidate.

	the front page didnt help me at all -- didnt know this had a german version... but i did guess it rather quickly anyway... but completely blanked after first verse -- thought it had to do with shepherds, but spelled it shepards... oh well... Merry Christmas everyone!!

	The danger with picking a carol like this is that there are at least two very different versions going around, quite apart from any translation issues. The one I sang at our Carol service a couple of days ago had the last line of verse three in common with this, and that's about all. (And we used "your" instead of "thy" there as well. But hey, that's because at least we've managed to move into the 20th Century..!)

	Alternate spellings of hallelujeh such as Halleluia and Alleluia should be accepted they are used in various versions of the song according to http://www.azlyrics.com/search.php?q=silent+night+

	Nitpicking which are the "right" lyrics seems to kind of miss the point of the song (and the quiz). As with many of these Christmas carols, there are different lyrical versions, many coming in both "Roman Catholic" and "Protestant" versions. The second verse in the Catholic version we sang when I was a kid went, "Shepherds quake at the sight, radiant beings from Heaven above, Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah...." It's no more "right" or "wrong" than the lyrics in the quiz, just an alternate version. HAVE FUN, lighten up and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
