Of the 6 categories where they went head-to-head, Cabaret won 4 (Director, Sound, Editing, and, Supporting Actor - where Joel Grey beat out 3 nominees from The Godfather). Annie Hall, the other Best Picture winner not on here despite another film that year making the list (Star Wars), went 4/5 - winning Picture, Director, Actress, and Original Screenplay, and only not winning Actor. Of course, Annie Hall wasn't nominated in any of the "technical" categories that Star Wars dominated. A Place in the Sun wasn't a Best Picture winner, either, but the film that won (An American in Paris) is also on this list. |
