Pretoria is the capital of South Africa, not Cape Town.

It's Serravalle, not Serraville. Also - that's the largest castello, while Dogana is the largest city.

Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein are the capitals of South Africa. Sporcle generally tends to use Pretoria, so you should either include all 3 or just Pretoria for consistency sake.

Chaguanas is T&T's largest
municipality
, while San Fernando is the largest
city
. San Fernando should at least be an acceptable answer. Otherwise very good quiz, makes you think.

I agree with A_is_for_Addict. Add in the Bloemfontein or just leave Pretoria and take out Cape Town. Pretoria acts as the executive capital and de facto national capital, so if you were to use one, use Pretoria.

Why doesn't Quezon City ever show up in biggest city quizzes? If it is larger than Manila, it must be absolutely massive.

I don't think Umm Durman and Quezon City should really count. They're pretty much part of the Khartoum and Manila area, which is why you may not have heard of them.

I attempted to create a similar quiz, but gave up because there will never be definitive answers. Some of these are suburbs of larger cities, and some aren't even cities at all. Also, population can be counted in several different ways, and different sources will have different data. Nice idea, but the impracticalities make for an unpleasant quiz.

If you're going to accept "New York" without the "City" part, then you need to accept "Ho Chi Minh" without the "City" part (not to mention that you only write "Washington", and not "Washington, DC").

Yeah, there are better user created puzzles unpublished than this slip-through-the-cracker. RE: rct's comment: I believe "Washington" is the official name of the city; the District of Columbia is the administrative entity.

No, officially our capital city is "Washington, DC", not "Washington". I find it funny that I get negative comment points for making a completely valid and factually accurate point. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/usa/states/dc/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington,_D.C.

@rct: By your source, the official formal name of the capital of the U.S. is the District of Columbia, not Washington, D.C. What I find interesting is how many of these cities are former capitals of these countries e.g. Yangon, Cotonou, Abidjan, Lagos, even New York, or were capitals of these entities before they were countries, such as Belize City, Almaty.

Wow, some of these places are *incredibly* obscure! :o I wonder why these countries don't use the largest city as the capital. Do they all have cities specifically created to be the capitals? (like DC, Canberra and Brasilia were).
