In three minutes, not including the states that obviously wouldn't be answers (your Alabamas, your Utahs, et al), I could easily type every state twice over.

Drop the time to 1 or 2 minutes to make it really challenging.

Might be more interesting based on percentage rather than raw population figures. As it is, it just becomes "name the most populated states".

i second that it needs to be based on percentages. these are just the most populated states, so obviously they are going to have the most numberwise, but to see which have the highest percentages would be a more interesting statistic.

sergeant343, that's because the total population of Vermont is very small. See above comments.

Why would you do largest population when largest percent would make more sense? Otherwise it is just the largest states by population, adjusted.

NYC without the state would be more like 75%.

Agree - largest per cent would be interesting, too.

I would go with shorter time (a minute would be ideal) and by largest percentage. You could also make people answer in specific order with a little longer on the clock.

I'm not surprised Texas is on here, considering only steers and queers come from Texas.

Yeah percentages would be more difficult. I kept typing populous states until I got them all. Plus there was enough time to type in every state, probably.

The data from the census is very flawed for something like this. Since they can't collect data about sexual orientation, they measured the number of 'same-sex unmarried-partner households' which only measured how many LGBT couples were living together at the time. Plus this question was only given out to a small sample of the population and then multiplied to give a general estimate.

What a odd thing to collect stats for. Do they all collect stats for what kind of girl/boy you like?

Houston just elected an openly-gay (or would that be openly-lesbian?) mayor; I here Houston is actually quite LGBT-friendly.

I think it would depend on the part of Texas you're in. Example: Texas would be a democrat state, if it weren't for those suburbs :) Also yes, I agree. Too long.

My guess is this is based on the number of people who select "unmarried partners, same sex" on the census questionnaire. The main problem with this statistic is it does not count single LGBT folks. It would not really be an accurate count of how many gay people live in a particular state.
