Hmm... seems my notes were too long for Sporcle, so: Guessing an idea like this must've been done, but I don't see it... In any case, the credit should be do the anon authors who compiled the list @ Wikipedia... And no you really shouldn't feel bad about not having heard of half of these, I know I didn't!

http://www.sporcle.com/games/Evanissexy/Countries1900 Evanissexy came up with this early in October last year. A cursory search of user-created games found this...look harder.

Fair enough. I tried, lets see, countries, country, countries of the world, world countries, but didn't find that. Maybe I need tips on searching, at least I found that a couple of other ideas had been done before taking the plunge. Ah, well.

One shouldn't rely on Wikipedia for quizzes of this type because some of the "countries" were not states in the modern sense and some are included randomly.

Canada wasn't an independent state.

It is GENERALLY accepted that Canada gained independence in 1867 although there could be some debate about it because we weren't technically allowed to change our constitution without the queen's signature until 1982. "Independence" is a bit of a loose term when you get right down to it. There's a lot of countries today that are, by most standards, independent except for the fact the US and the UN don't feel like recognizing them. Also, wasn't Tibet independent in 1900?
