| Holopchi apparently means cabbage rolls, a food traditionally made in several Eastern/Central European countries, not just Ukraine. I think I've tried them actually in Romania. But it is a very obscure food in the West. I live in the UK and practically nobody would have heard of them here. Ditto regarding Karelian Pies, Perogies, etc. I read that in the UK, Northern, Central and Eastern European dishes are a less popular whereas Mediterranean dishes are much more widespread. It probably differs to some extent in the USA, given the US has a different ethnic makeup and history of immigration. |
