| Can't one think there are serious problems with the way Fangraphs calibrates its WAR figures without being a know-nothing who thinks Ryan Howard should be MVP? The way that fWAR, in particular, weights positions, assesses defense and base-running, focuses on offensive stats that are designed to predict future value rather than measure current value, and sets the replacement levels are all problematic. The fact that, somehow, almost all of the top players are center fielders, shortstops, and second basemen, suggests how problematic their formula is. |
