"Qazaqstan", "Eire", "Hrvatska" and possibly "Kampuchea" are not really former names or nicknames, but rather the name of the country in its native language. You might want to specify this in the title or change them. "Yamato" is misspelt.

Does anyone else remember the Friends of Upper Volta? When I was in college, someone decided to form an organization "adopting" this little African country that sat next to the US in the alphabetical seating in the UN General Assembly. I may still have a Friends of Upper Volta button around somewhere. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=888&dat=19640309&id=_GVSAAAAIBAJ&sjid=23wDAAAAIBAJ&pg=7364,5497281

"Bohemia and Moravia" might be more accurate than just "Bohemia" for the Czech Republic.

Good game. Surprised Zaire isn't right more often. The name change was only in 1997.

When I didn't know any more, I started sounding a few out to see if they triggered anything. And I got to Xamayca. And I said it out loud. And it sounded almost exactly like "Jamaica." And I thought... and thought... 'nope, not ringing any bells.' Then I gave up and saw the answer and made a rage face.

Strictly speaking, Zimbabwe was formerly known as Southern Rhodesia (Zambia was Noethern Rhodesia)

@Beefy_K: although it was initially known as Southern Rhodesia it also changed its name to simply "Rhodesia" in 1964
