| @Chile: That's technically true, but a lot of people in the surrounding area just refer to it as Garmisch and everyone knows you mean Garmisch-Partenkirchen when you say that. I'm from Munich. Meanwhile in Hungary I doubt people would really know immediately that you mean the whole city, not just the half of it that's Buda. That's also a difference, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is really a united town now and you don't walk through it going 'oh here's the Partenkirchen' part, meanwhile in Budapest there's really still the two halves, so actually calling it Budapest is important. I think in the case of Garmisch when its an obscure German name to spell on a timed sporcle quiz, it should be acceptable. |
