Great quiz, but just one picky thing: forgot a comma between "Antwerp" and "Athens" under "A".
Apr 29th, 2012 at 03:23 GMT
Add future sites as bonuses? (Sochi, Rio de Janeiro, Pyongchang)?

a timely reminder and a surprisingly tricky quiz. How could I miss G?
May 5th, 2012 at 15:56 GMT
Because of this quiz I really must suggest the olympics be hosted in Zurich and Quebec City.
May 5th, 2012 at 16:14 GMT
^^ I was going to suggest Ulaanbataar, but there would be two many arguments on how to spell it. Might have to go with Uppsala.

I admit, I tried Vatican City for V.

Thank you for using the correct English name for Turin. That "Torino" business was ridiculous. If it were held in Rome, they wouldn't call it "Roma".
May 5th, 2012 at 16:40 GMT
I am protesting the next three Olympic games for not expanding on possible first letters.
May 5th, 2012 at 16:41 GMT
There's always hope for Doha to win the 2020 bid...
May 5th, 2012 at 16:48 GMT
Correct English name? It should be acceptable in the original language of the country. Torino should be accepted. It's on the Olympic gear that I have

You know you're a sporcler when: A. You get Cortina d'Ampezzo before Oslo and B. You spend a quarter of the quiz trying to think of a city that starts with 'J' that you think deserves the 2020 games, and choose Johor Baharu, Malaysia
May 5th, 2012 at 18:02 GMT
Yamoussoukro for 2024!
May 5th, 2012 at 18:31 GMT
Anyone else try Vienna?
May 5th, 2012 at 18:50 GMT
I could've used some extra time. Another twenty minutes or so might be enough.
May 5th, 2012 at 19:16 GMT
Yeah, I was never gonna get Garmisch-Partenkirchen!
May 5th, 2012 at 19:53 GMT
May 5th, 2012 at 20:32 GMT
@tulliusscicero, or maybe Kuala Lumpur for K.
May 5th, 2012 at 22:13 GMT
Got Nagano and Cortina d'Ampezzo, missed Rome and Paris. Sporclitis strikes again.

In all quizzes that ask about Olympics, Winter games are for me always much more difficult to remember. That may be because: 1) there were more Summer games; 2) Winter locations are smaller or less known cities, or 3) I live in a city that had snow only six times in the last 432 years.
May 6th, 2012 at 01:27 GMT
With 26 seconds left I had to decide whether to use my time trying to spell Garmisch-Partenkirchen or try to think of the other one. I thought of the other one.
May 6th, 2012 at 04:01 GMT
So sad that Africa and South America have hosted so few Olympiads, not that I like the games or the environment that much!
May 6th, 2012 at 04:05 GMT
Great quiz! If you get the bonus answer for Pyongchang, it comes up as 2018 Sochi by the way - maybe a quick fix needed? I'm backing Zaragoza and Yonkers for their future Olympic bids.
May 6th, 2012 at 12:08 GMT
Or how about the Winter Olympics in Yakutsk? All survivors of outdoor activities will automatically receive a medal.
May 6th, 2012 at 13:52 GMT
waegooktom: and quickly fixed, thanx
May 6th, 2012 at 15:59 GMT
I don't like to be picky about this, but "Garmisch" should not be an acceptable answer for "Garmisch-Partenkirchen"; that's tantamount to accepting "Buda" as the capital of Hungary. In each case the name of the modern city is an amalgamation of the names of the two cities from which it was formed, and the name of one of the two former cities is not the name of the modern one.
May 6th, 2012 at 17:52 GMT
Isn't the site of the 2018 Winter Olympics PyEongchang? At the very least, that spelling should be accepted as an alternate, even if not primary.
May 6th, 2012 at 23:26 GMT
Summer Olympics 2040 should be in Mos Eisley. Just sayin'.
May 7th, 2012 at 01:19 GMT
Damn, I missed "M"... oh hey, I'm FROM Montreal >_>
May 7th, 2012 at 04:20 GMT
Got Grenoble and Nagano, not Paris and Tokyo. *sigh*
May 7th, 2012 at 14:27 GMT
@chile - I don't think anything is implied by accepting Garmisch alone other than the player should get credit for thinking of the city if they can at least come up with the first part. Just like many country quizzes accept St. Vincent without adding "and the Grenadines."
May 7th, 2012 at 14:50 GMT
@cmkeller: thanx and fixed
May 8th, 2012 at 21:15 GMT
You should think about including Denver as a bonus, as the city originally won the bid, and then declined it.
May 9th, 2012 at 22:00 GMT
I could have sworn they'd been to Orlando!
May 10th, 2012 at 13:01 GMT
@Chile: That's technically true, but a lot of people in the surrounding area just refer to it as Garmisch and everyone knows you mean Garmisch-Partenkirchen when you say that. I'm from Munich. Meanwhile in Hungary I doubt people would really know immediately that you mean the whole city, not just the half of it that's Buda. That's also a difference, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is really a united town now and you don't walk through it going 'oh here's the Partenkirchen' part, meanwhile in Budapest there's really still the two halves, so actually calling it Budapest is important. I think in the case of Garmisch when its an obscure German name to spell on a timed sporcle quiz, it should be acceptable.

25/26. How did I miss P? *embarrassed*
May 22nd, 2012 at 06:59 GMT
Funny how four of five M's held Summer Olympics in a row.
Nov 1st, 2012 at 21:38 GMT
Of course I missed "P", but "P" missed the olympics so many times !
Feb 16th, 2013 at 01:14 GMT
