If you missed any, the answers are: Domingo, Pinta, Gold, Athos, Metamorphic, Judicial, Huey, Red, Japan, Convection, Charlotte, Scotland, Life, Kentucky Derby, Pop, Radius, Cape Town, Simon, Russia, Joseph, Armstrong and Return of the King.

Am I misunderstanding Major Axis Power? I thought the Axis powers were Germany (G), Italy (I), and Japan (J). That would put Italy in the middle alphabetically.

@MRL: I still can't believe I did that (well to be totally honest I can !) Thanx for the spot, it has now been corrected.

You have Russia as the middle member of the Triple Entente, so I guess you're using United Kingdom as that country's name -- but it also goes by Britain and Great Britain (the option I chose), which changes the order.

For some reason I took "Holy Family" to mean "Holy Trinity", and I'm not even going to get into my ignorance of horse racing (I desperately tried "show" from "win, place, show").

@DeaconEcon: I've exchanged the question to avoid confusion. (The new missing answer is Hermione) @jimmyk83: sorry I've been moving things around.

So, out of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, just how is Scotland in the middle alphabetically?
Flick

Dec 20th, 2011 at 15:36 GMT

@PurppuraSuihku: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (or the UK for short) as you can see by its official name contains Northern Ireland. Great Britain consequently, is the official name of the two kingdoms of England and Scotland, and the principality of Wales.

Nice game! Good test of knowledge/language. It was fun once I started played it correctly, after a rough start.... I read the instructions. Then, I still proceeded to spend time typing "Color" in response to the first clue.

I have read all the HP books and have seen all the movies, and I have no idea what the "Hogwarts Central Three" is. Given that a google search for the term turns up this quiz as the second overall result, I would submit that it's either not a real term, or certainly is not widely used.

Nitpick:
The Lord of the Rings
consists of three
volumes
, each of which contains two
books
. The point gets across, but the clue isn’t strictly correct.

I suppose there are a number of nitpicky issues with clues, but they're either arguable or didn't affect my ability to figure out what was being asked, and they were more concise than a full-sentence question might have been. I enjoyed this one.

Agreed about "Hogwarts Central Three", I've read all the HP and it took me about thirty seconds to figure out what you meant by that. Initially it was Professors that came to mind, when you say HOGWARTS I think of Hogwarts, not the series as a whole. Also... anyone else try "Holy Ghost" for Holy Family? As in... between "Father" and "Son".

The troublesome question has been substituted. If you missed any, the answers are: Red, Pop, Gold, Pinta, Athos, Metamorphic, Judicial, Huey, Italy, Convection, Charlotte, Scotland, Life, Kentucky Derby, Radius, Cape Town, Simon, Larry , Joseph, Armstrong and Return of the King.

To continue the nitpicking :P : Great Britain nation? If it's the nation it consists of four nations, and its entire name is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", or UK. If it's the island, it's only Great Britain and it's not a nation. ;)

@Flick: About the Three Stooges question, you really shouldn't have it here. During the official Stooges' career, there were six men who performed as the Stooges. They started off with Curly, Larry and Moe, but after Curly suffered a stroke, he was replaced by Shemp; in that incarnation of the Stooges, Moe would be the correct answer. With both Joe Besser and Curly Joe as the "third" Stooge, Larry would be correct.
Other than that, a good quiz. (I am curious, though. When I entered the wrong answer on "Three Musketeers," I got a "Nope, it was ....." on the line for the first answer, which I'd answered correctly. Did this happen to anyone else? If not, why did it happen at all?)

I have to say this quiz had too many times when I had to 'metagame' - try to figure out what the quizmakers were thinking - for me to give it a super-high score. I also had the stumble with the 'holy family', and I noticed the Three Stooges and Great Britain problems. It's only a few, but it's enough to distract. Also, the ???s at the end are irritating - just show us the answer.

I have put the answers in the comments, albeit a little lower down than I would have preferred, as I had a lie in this morning (in fact I think I need another one !)

@dyster: "Great Britain Nation" in this quiz does not claim GB is a nation, any more than "American Flag Color" claims the US flag is a color. It asks you for the middle one alphabetically of the 3 nations in GB.

How about preceding each clue with the Sporcle category it belongs in? SPORTS: Olympic Medal, SCIENCE: Main rock type, RELIGION: Holy Family Member.
Then you could TELEVISION: Brady daughters, HOLIDAY: A Christmas Carol's Spirits

@floridameerkat: well spotted. "Ma" comes after both "Je" and "Jo", and therefore Joseph is in the middle.
