Wow, expecting people to come up with a Russian last name is almost an exercise in cruelty. (Also, minor note: no "The" at the start of the Wm Gg novel.)

Thanx Tahnan. @ Wm Gg: 'The' has been removed @ 'almost an exercise in cruelty': I know :)

But it's not a last name; it's a patronymic. (His last name is Shukhov.)

Spent half the time trying to get the last word in "Oe Dy in te Le of In Dh". When I finally saw the right answer, my first thought was "Desonovavich!"

Ah, I thought it meant first and last letters in the actual text of the book, that would have been ridiculous

@rockgolf: I'm right there with you. I got all of these except for that one. I knew all of it (including Ivan!) but couldn't remember the last name -- let alone the spelling -- for the life of me!

Perhaps the only quiz in history to include "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovic" and "The Hungry Caterpillar". You have to salute that.

More people got The Da Vinci Code than anything else? Kind of sad, especially when you consider that Catch 22 is a dead giveaway.

5 globes - partly because it's a good quiz, partly because it finally validated my having read "one day in the life of ivan denisovich" in high school.

Took me about 4 minutes to notice the authors' letters were there too, which was actually quite helpful. Ratsicles.

Can't wait for the sequel. Long titles work best, like "Te Cs It of te Dg in te Nt-Te."

Could you please put the word "title" in the description? Yes, 20 seconds in it is obvious, but like David83 above, I initially thought it was the uber-challenging first and last letters of the entire book itself, not just the title. The description may be scaring people off. Almost did me.

The description on the Sporcle homepage is grammatically incorrect: it should go more QUICKLY (an adverb modifies a verb, not an adjective like "quicker"). Maybe next time the editors will read every page of their grammar book.

The last one (which I conveniently missed) was my favourite book as a kid!

This one floored me because most of them I got by simply glancing at the letters. The one that was hardest was Huck Finn and I think it was because I don't think of "The Adventures of" as being in the title. They say you really don't read the middles of words. This quiz really showed it. What a hoot.
