Frug, you're almost right: that is, right up to the "funded by" part. "The Deer Hunter" was produced by EMI Films, a British company. While (American) director Michael Cimino was one of the producers who was given the Oscar for the movie's Best Picture win, the other three producers were British. Strange though it may be, it does belong on the list...though, Flick, I'd probably include a note at the top about what qualifies as a "British" film.
