	there's no reason not to accept ivory coast or east timor in a game that is based on speed. Also, if you're going to be picky and include "the" gambia on the list, then many more countries would qualify based on their elongated full names. You should use common usage names only.

	@wolofsky: I've added your suggestions as alternatives, but decided to keep 'The Gambia' in as it's removal I feel would just result in comments asking 'Where is 'The Gambia' ?

	I think "Cote d'ivoire" is three words, not two (just as "I'm" is two words and does not figure in the most common English words quizzes).

	I second having Gambia as a bonus. Otherwise 'the' Philippines, 'the' Netherlands and even 'the' Sudan as it is officially called, would all count as full answers. The Marshall Islands is also 3 words by that definition. Great quiz though!

	The consensus seems to be that 'The' countries, should be bonuses. The Gambia has therefore been demoted and the game note changed.

	Guinea-Bissau is hyphenated. I'm not sure whether that still makes it two words or not, but it should appear like that IMO. If it still counts, maybe Congo-Kinshasa and Congo-Brazzaville could be bonuses.

	bosnia herzegoniva?! Even though there's an And in there (which i didn't realise till going to wikipedia) it also says it's acceptable without the And on it's page...(plus i wasted valuable seconds spelling it and then rechecking my spelling)

	I agree that the US should be on here, because the UK is not the official name either. If you were talking to someone from another country, you wouldn't say "I'm from the United States of America." Well, you might, but most normal people would just say "I'm from the United States."

	Yeah, Timor-Leste and Guinea-Bissau should both be bonuses. Things that are hyphenated are considered one word, not two.

	@buis_golalas and Flick: let me disagree. Although in the other cases the names with and without "the" can be used interchangeably (Bahamas or The Bahamas, Netherlands or The Netherlands, etc.), you can't say just "Salvador"; the country is always referred to as "El Salvador". If I hear someone saying "I'm going to Salvador" I would understand Salvador in the state of Bahía (Brazil) and not Central America. (Moreover, in alphabetical lists of countries, while [The] Gambia always appears under G, El Salvador never appears under S, always under E).

	@RobPro - Yes, and the 2-word "United States" is the standard "common" name of the country, just as "United Kingdom" is short for "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" and "Sri Lanka" is short for "Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka." Why use official names to rule out some countries, but not others? Argentina is officially the "Argentine Republic," so if we're keeping the US off this quiz, why also Argentina? (See also: French Republic, Italian Republic, Hellenic Republic, etc.) Look at the Countries of the World quiz to see the standard names Sporcle uses for each country. I think we should be consistent across the site. I'm aware of the confusion, but I'm also very surprised that it's being discarded with such prejudice. Even after the inconsistency is pointed out, people keep voting down these comments and I'm really confused as to why. Do people think only the US should be referred to by its full, official name on Sporcle?
