Good fun, but one minor criticism: you use some approximations of recurring decimals. You should really use an ellipsis to indicate that they are not terminating decimals, thus: 0.3333... Otherwise the answers to these questions are technically incorrect.

Wow, awesome quiz, and perfect challenging timing! I'm in maths grad school, and did it with 13 seconds to spare :-)

I'm a 37 year old university grad, and I've no idea what a "power" is.

@The_Road_Guy - a power is what you'd call the result of an exponential equation. It's like a sum when you use addition.

Straightforward. I started to think I would run out of time, but then I remembered that multiplication and division are much easier than addition and subtraction.

A power is an expression, not the result of an equation, that involves a base and an exponent. 2^4 is a power. 2 is the base, 4 is the exponent.

you should allow just 1 minute for this whole test, that's all you need.

Too much time, I finished in just over a minute and I didn't feel rushed at any point. Make it a minute to be challenging, or at least a minute and a half.

Good quiz - love Arithmetic (it's not Mathematics). I had a minute to spare, but i'm pretty good at sums. If you did reduce by a minute those less good would have no chance. I think the balance was okay. Stats don't lie!!

Messed up bad on the 'to the power of 0.25' thing but still made it with around 20 seconds to spare (and probably didn't deserve to). Could you make it a minute shorter?

Ugh. I hate math. So I'm pleased I go as far as I did. I knew the "theory" of powers but didn't know how to calculate to a fraction power (256 ^.25).

Normally these maths quizzes involve stupidly large numbers and/or don't give you enough time to finish, but this one - for a change - had neither problem! Maybe you should cut the time down a bit, to 2 minutes, but other than that this was probably the best sporcle maths quiz I've done!

Why do the British call "math" "maths"? Seriously, I'm not trying to sound like an Anglophobe, but where does that final "s" come from?

@WCRoentgen: MathematicS is plural, so that's where the 's' comes from.

Yeah, two minutes is way too much for that. Either make the problems harder (ie multiplying by 2-digit numbers that don't end in zero) or cut the time down to 60 seconds. Seriously, is 44 x 17 that hard of a problem to do mentally?

@ sproutcm: we're not looking for derivatives, just harder computation. there's a difference between tougher math and tougher computation. even the other is more of a test of how much math you know: ceiling function, logs (you have to assume base 10), floor function, etc.

This isn't trivia - everyone knows the answers to all these questions. This is a speed dash. The only way to separate winners from losers is to make the time cutoff 1 minute. This isn't your kid's t-ball league where everyone gets a trophy just for showing up.
