Dodge This. Great quiz, FTM.
Jun 8th, 2012 at 10:24 GMT
Very nicely done

Time for a sporcle poll! Should film titles be accepted as well as the character names? I've gone back and forth on this so I'll let you the people decide. Also if there's someone you think is glaringly missing leave a suggestion. I have plenty of feisty ladies left over for a second quiz, and maybe a villainess version as well.
Jun 8th, 2012 at 13:02 GMT
Just my opinion but I say leave it the way it is. The focus of the quiz is on strong women and having to name the character emphasizes that. Accepting the movie may make it more accessible for some though so I can see the dilemma.
Jun 8th, 2012 at 15:17 GMT
keep it how it is!! :]

FTM - I know you're the Movies editor, but I think you should tack an 'editors pick' on this. I don't think there would be anything wrong with that since a lot of effort has gone into this. I don't know the protocol regarding that, but it's well deserved. Maybe do it on behalf of the movie category "loyals" as this is such a great quiz and should be showcased. Nominated for the front page. Your question is a tough one as Zalkon pointed out. It should be by name, as it is, but maybe it would need titles for the front page to make it more accessible for casual movie fans?
Jun 8th, 2012 at 17:40 GMT
screw the casual movie fans! jk, but seriously, this is deserving of an EP, but maybe it will go straight to being published. It has my nomination!

Was really hoping 'Multipass' would get me past the second picture until I remembered her name.
Jun 14th, 2012 at 20:22 GMT
laloo? layloo? Loola? ah crap.
Jun 15th, 2012 at 17:21 GMT
Natalia Romanova or Natasha Romanoff should be accepted. It is technically her name as well.
Jun 15th, 2012 at 20:34 GMT
Awesome, but we expect that from you... A couple of ideas:
Princess Vespa - Spaceballs
Maggie Fitzgerald - Million Dollar Baby
Hanna - Hanna
Laurie Jupiter / Silk Spectre II - Watchmen
Mallory Knox - Natural Born Killers (okay, not so much a role model)

You missed my mum - certainly not someone to be messed with.

I know it's coming out soon, but why did you include a movie that hasn't been released yet?
Jun 19th, 2012 at 04:36 GMT
It did have its premiere yesterday in Hollywood and the previews have been out for months now so it's not like it's obscure, even if it's not in wide release yet.
Jun 19th, 2012 at 04:41 GMT
Admin here, I'm curious to hear more about why including Brave is an issue. I thought it was a pretty appropriate addition to FearTheManatee's quiz even though the movie is a few days away.
Jun 19th, 2012 at 04:50 GMT
Sooo is there a corresponding quiz about male characters? Or does it just go without saying that the men in action movies are fierce?
Jun 19th, 2012 at 04:58 GMT
I've got a bigger issue with the inclusion of Prometheus in this quiz.

Fierce, yes, and often felonious. At least 18 of the 25 characters here solved their problems with acts of violence. Very male of them, don't you think? ------- A scowl and a gun don't make you "fierce". Why not celebrate truly empowered female characters like "Catherine Sloper" (The Heiress) and the eponymous "Mildred Pierce"?
Jun 19th, 2012 at 06:02 GMT
The reason its an issue to include movies that have not come out yet is, part of the way to play the quiz is to give character names, which we really cant know unless we see the movie. Putting out questions about movies that have not been released is just not good. So you couldnt find another female who is "fierce" in the history of movies from a film thats actually been released?
Jun 19th, 2012 at 06:30 GMT
@DashDixon: Oh, come on. Only one of the 25 is a
felon. (Though three or four more should probably be arrested.)

where is Hit Girl from Kickass!
Jun 19th, 2012 at 07:32 GMT
I like the mix of current and past films. Yay for adding River Tam

2012 sure has seen a lot of tomboy films.
Jun 19th, 2012 at 09:13 GMT
Cool quiz. Hope you make one for TV! There's loads of heroines to chose from: Buffy (again, heh), Xena, Sidney from Alias, Juliet from LOST, Dana Scully... It'd be good.
Jun 19th, 2012 at 09:22 GMT
would love to see Grace Jones' character (Zula) from Conan the Destroyer. Without scrolling down, i tried it in vain hope. alas!
Jun 19th, 2012 at 10:33 GMT
@burywmore: Your complaint would be more valid if you had to name the character only. Seeing how you can list the movie as well for full credit, I don't know why Brave and Prometheus are so controversial.
Jun 19th, 2012 at 10:58 GMT
It seems Hollywood makes a strong, independent woman just by giving her some weapon. Or red hair.

Why Aliens rather than Alien for Ellen Ripley?
Jun 19th, 2012 at 12:56 GMT
What did Shaw do that puts her on this quiz? Fiercely avoid any sensible rules for alien containment?
Jun 19th, 2012 at 13:49 GMT
Another movie quiz with nothing from before 1977. How about Rose Sayer (The African Queen), Scarlett O'Hara (Gone With the Wind), or Annie Oakley?
Jun 19th, 2012 at 14:14 GMT
I'm not a fan of including movies that are currently in theaters. I took a complete guess on Prometheus, for example, but until I squinted to see the image better I thought it was an image from The Abyss.
Jun 19th, 2012 at 14:16 GMT
No La Femme Nikita?
Jun 19th, 2012 at 14:24 GMT
So... who would win in a fight? My money would probably be on Sarah Connor, she's been places nobody should go and survived. She's tough. Mind you, Jen Yu is dangerously feisty... Oh - or Red Sonja, she'd take no prisoners! There's only one way to find out... FIGHT!
Jun 19th, 2012 at 14:32 GMT
I like the URL.
