memento is a color film with a couple of black and white scenes. If that is the standard what about the kill bill movies and several others

Memento was actually a mistake. I double checked the source by watching as much as I could find of the film online. I meant to delete it like I did "Dead Again", another film that is mostly in color. Thanks for reminding me!

Great quiz, but I'd suggest an actor hint along with the year. Other than the Best Picture winners, "The Artist" and "Schindler's List" not many people remember black and white films

Yep, another hint would be welcome and American History X is also mostly in colors.

What about "Celebrity," from 1998? Per imdb, it grossed a little over 5 million.

I think another hint would make it too easy, personally. But this was fun!

Didn't Coppola's Rumble Fish hit the $3 million mark?

Removed AHX. Added Celebrity. Rumble Fish only grossed $2,494,480 in the US, just barely missing out.
