| A lot of these don't exist anymore, or have been subsumed under larger studios as labels (i.e. New Line under WB, Columbia/Tristar under Sony). Technically a "studio" is a major entertainment entity with both development capacity and a backlot or privately-owned space on which to film. Fox, WB, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Paramount, NBC/Universal, and Disney are the commonly accepted majors, with Lionsgate-Summit, DreamWorks/DWA, Weinstein, and MGM comprising some of the mini-majors. /film school rant. |
