Maybe you can add the Western Roman Empire (although there may be 2 answers acceptable), South Vietnam (he ruled for 2 days), the Orange Free State, South African Republic (Transvaal), Zulu Kingdom, the Asante Union, United Arab Republic, the Kingdom of Dahomey and the Holy Roman Empire.

I had considered adding South Vietnam but I chose not to because of the lack of oversight in the final years and months (and days). Some of the others you mentioned were only semi-recognized or semi-independent which, in addition to countries and kingdoms that ended more than 150 years ago, is something I tried to avoid.

Llywelyn ap Gruffydd was the last prince of Wales. It's still a country but not independent. Could include him.

It's your quiz, Edelweiss, and a good one, so you decide what to include!

Queen Anne, last monarch of the Kingdom of Scotland (1707)? Benjamin Ide, only President of the California Republic (1846 but very brief)? Only suggestions; obviously you can't include every extinct state.

no way should the CSA be on this quiz as it was never a formally recognised country.

Actually Lothar de Maiziere was the last leader of East Germany, which existed until October 1990 as an independent country.

Quite honestly, I don't think "south" should be an accepted name for the CSA. Yes, it was the southern part of the US, but there were loads of other former countries that were the "southern" part of a country, like South Vietnam and South Yemen, the latter of which is on the quiz.
